Wierd Engine Cutout Issue
I have not had it happen again for about 2 weeks.
Anyone, anyone??
There was a recall on a switch in the wiper motor gearcase on these trucks.
Apparently they would overheat and burnout and the wipers would no longer work.
It may be nothing, but it might be worth investigating since there seems to be an issue when you're running the wipers wet or dry.
Just thought I'd throw that out there,

B1438 - Wipermode Switch Circuit Failure
B1450 - Wiper/Washer Delay Switch Circuit Failure
From what I could find out so far it points to the Multifunction switch on the steering column, from where you switch on your wipers.
One other observation, is that since I had the truck when the wipers were turned off, they would continue on, and I have to turn it to fast then off to make it stop. Also when I push to start the wiper washer, it would not always start on the first push.
Apart from this, wipers were working fine. So my conclusion is that it could well be the multifunction switch.
Will appreciate any feedback from anybody who have had these codes/symptoms before.
Interesting about the code. My 02 has now started this rain only problem as well. But can't seem to pull any codes, even when the check engine light is on. What reader did you use and how.
I'm on my 2nd Borg Warner CPS. Going to break down and get a CPS from the dealer this week and try that.
I suspect moister is causing my problem. Under dry conditions and wipers on everything runs great. As soon as it's moist (foggy, snow, you name it) burb! I read somewhere in these forums about water running down the windshield and into the dash but can't find that info.
Any more info would be great.
The times when my engine cut out was also only in rainy wet conditions, but has not done it again for about 4 months.

The windshield leak you referred to was an issue with the 99 model trucks.
could be your wiper motor pulling to much voltage! also i herd that your wiper wires and cps wires use the same harness?dont know how true that is!
Semper fi. Thanks for the info on the scanner and the welcome. Went to town today. Cold but no rain or snow. Wipers and lights on. Not one problem.
After I made the last post I found the CPS recall. Punched in my VIN into the Ford recall site, and there she was. I've already replaced it with a BWD CSS1603, which is black with gold metal. I wonder if they'll still cover the recall. I think I should my posts to the CPS recall thread.
The symptoms are this, driving in the rain the engine will occasionally hiccup and continue on, then do it again every so often, when stopped and at idle it will often die, but will start back up on the first try. If I drive it in the rain for more than about 10 minutes the service engine light will come on and the truck will continue to run, but will be pretty down on power and run rough. ( no codes other than CPS and TPS error when this happens ) so it looks like something is disrupting the CPS operation when driving in the rain.
I guess when I get home I should check the wiring, and winshield wiper switch. I'll post info if I find anything out.
I did put an aftermarket grill on it not too long before I started having problems ( same one as Ebay item number 310009626897 ), maybe I should check it to the stock one and see if there's something about it's design and openings that allow a bunch of water in where the stock one didn't. ( may be a stretch, but I might as well take a look )

I installed a brush guard just prior to my first problem. But, I'd bet it has nothing to do with the problem. Other than the CPS safety recall this month (which I'm going to take care of quickly), I'm guessing that moister is getting into the female end and onto the connectors or making it pass the o-ring to the senor itself. Keep us posted on your results. I'll be interested since your symptoms are exactly the same as mine. I will tell you that as soon as I swapped the CPS recently the problems stopped even in the rain, but soon returned. Of course during our recent ice storm and week long power outage here in Oklahoma.
