It seems to take forever for my engine to put out any heat. The vents blow cold air for at least an hour (highway driving including one five mile hill) before I get any measureable heat. My V10 is a 1999 in a 35ft MH that has motor aid to heat the hot water tank and rear bedroom heat. The outside ambient temperature during my latest run was around 50 to 60F. The idiot engine temp guage isn't any help but the newly installed tranny temp guage never got over 90F. If this is an abnormal condition could I be in for a new thermostat or could there be an air lock. TIA for your help
seems like a maybe your coolant level is low since your temps seem really low.gauges need fluid across them to read correctly.a stuck thermastat should let the temps come up a little higher than that.no thermastat would probaly make it run hot since the coolant does not stay in radiater long enough to cool.i would check for air in cooling system and check level.is there a vaccum operated deal that may not be opening for your heater operate properly?hope this helps good luck!
Decided to go the cheap route first and replace the thermostat and the rad cap. I wasn't able to get a gasket for the thermostat. Can anyone tell me if this gasket is a rubber "O" ring thing or paper. If it's made of regular gasket material I can make one but the rubber O ring is another story. I don't want to take the thermostat out until I know for sure so thanks for any help you can provide.
Bit the bullet tonight and a friend and I removed the thermostat. The gasket was a 2 inch O ring (1/8th inch thick). Ring was in good shape and we re-used it. Took out a 185F thermostat and replaced it with a 195F. Now we have heat and it sure is nice. Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated.
