How can I tell if the CPS is going bad? Here is what happens, driving along fine then CEL comes on for 2-3 seconds and truck looses power then light goews out and everything seems AOK. Truck is a 95 F-350 PSD well maintained with 58,000 miles. I clean fuel screen its was totally plugged, fuel filter had a slime black coating on it, and there was no water in the bowl. I heard that CPS's came down in price to 39 dollars so I think that is worth a try as opposed to handing it over to a repair shop at 85 dollars an hour ...... thank for any and all help............
My truck is doing the same exact thing. I believe its the cps. I replaced itabout 2 years ago for the same reason. Powerstrokeshop .com has them for under 20 bucks. Grab two and put one in the glove box.
Jackman more than likely your issue isn't CPS. Normally they won't loose power they just quit for a few seconds then come back to life or just die completely and won't restart. They also won't normally set the CEL. But that said if you don't have a spare CPS you should and they are cheap. $15 at powerstrokeshop.com
I would be willing to bet that you have an under valve cover harness issue (loose connection). If you get the CPS and that doesn't fix it you need to get the codes read and that will point you and us in the right direction.
Thanks Fellas, I do appreciate the advice...... I was surprised to find the cps at the Auto Zone is 180 dollars, tomarrow I will check else where...... Any chance that the problem could be low oil in the hpop? Ive been doing searchs here and can't seem to find how to check or add to the hpop. Is the hpop oil fill on the top frount of motor? That would be nice if was low oil.......
Tj Beggs, I just found an old post of yours on the hpop complete with pics,,,,,,,,,, thank youu thank you thank you ,,,,,,,,, I will be checking that out first thing in AM,................
yeah check that but its also unlikely your issue. Ford will be your best bet to get a CPS. none of the aftermarkets are as cheap as the new ford unit. Even though your truck is a 95 order the CPS for a 97 PSD. It will work the same but should be no more than $40 out the door. What ever you do don't tell them its for your 95. they will swear up and down its not the right sensor and that it won't work. I am here to tell you it will work and you will have some money left when you are done.

When you guys say "under valve cover harness" do you think that the harness it self could be bad or just a simple tweak off the connector could set things straight..... I ask that because the truck is low miles (only 58,000) but it is time for glowplugs , they dont work at all I was planing that job for next month ,maybe I should order new harnesses along with the glow plugs?

The truck may only have 58k on it but it is still a 12 year old truck. The fact that you are also having trouble with the glow plugs would push the UVCharness to the front. I did not change my glow plugs until the truck had somewhere around 190k miles on it.

Since its intermittent I am thinking just the connector is loose but if it came loose once it will come loose twice so I would plan on new valve cover gaskets and Under valve cover harness (uvc harness') when you do your glow plugs. If they aren't burnt then keep them around for spares in a pinch.
