Thumbs up Spot free rinse mod

I had a plumber come over on Friday afternoon and run a water line out of my water softener to another hose bib in the front of my house. On Saturday I washed the old girl and WOW, no water spots, just let her drip dry.

Total cost was $77

I know, this would work for any truck but, I only have a PSD, that is why I thought I would share this with you all!!

What kind of soap did you use? Some soaps say "dry with towel", i normally use the Rain X wax soap. Works good, and if I didnt have to towel dry it(i have a soften water spiket) that would make it all the better.

Due to the local mania about water use and huge imposed surcharge fees for "excess water use", I ended up valving out my water softening system altogether. given that my family is quite large, we're still over the "base charge" level of usage even without the softener, and that's with us having taken some almost extreme steps at water reductions.

All the same, good information to know. Thanks.

Yeah, I heard from my Dad in Cahaba Heights that lake Purdy is almost dried up. Its not as bad here, they only have us on odd, even usage cycle. has not got to meter watching stage yet. WE NEED RAIN in Alabama.

It is a soap by Turtle Wax with Carnuba wax in it.

I feel your pain. I live in the driest state in the nation. Local authorities push residents to use pressure washers instead of an attachment to the garden hose. They say a pressure washer uses 1 10tenth of the regular water used when washing a car. I don't know if you save that much but I look at the water in the gutter of my neighbor using a hose vs. my gutter after washing with a pressure washer. There is a big difference. But yes, we all need to conserve.

Here too. I haven't mowed the lawn in almost 4 weeks.

I know it's off topic...

What we've done is catch water frmo downspouts during rains for watering my wife's flowers & herb garden when it doesn't rain, catch "warm-up" water in showers for same purpose, run shower only to get wet enough to soap up and then again to rinse (no water running while soaping up), turned off a leaking toilet (will replace with new one soon), re-use towels for two days, no more watering for the lawn, and wash cars only when it rains using nothing but rain and downspout water.

What's left to do is replace three toilets with newer low flow units, re-route A/C and dehumidifier condensate pump discharge to water flower beds, and replace old clothes washer.

What we saw the first month was a reduction in water by 1200 cubic feet, which is 256 gallons per day since it was a "35-day billing cycle".

Stopping the leaking toilet, lawn watering, and "wide open" shower usage were the biggest items for us.

Even better yet, use a leaf blower. My buddy told me about it a few weeks ago and ive done it three times now and it works perfect. Just waxed her last weekend so the backpack should scare the water right off of it. Works great to get all the water out of the hard to get areas, mirrors, door handles etc.

Warm up waists a ton of water. What you need is a recirculating pump on your hot water. Have a plumber connect the two furthest water fausets with a peice of pex that runs to the water heater. In that same line install a recirculating pump on a timer that comes on 5 minutes befor you shower in the morning. Boom, instant hot water, with non waisted. At my house we have it programmed to come on three different times of the day when we know we want hot water.

get teh tankless hot water heating systems saves even more water (and they claim will pay for itself in a couple years)
We just got a boil water order from DNR local water dept is in legal trouble, the water fails standards something like 4 different ways and isn't even considered safe for watering your pets, having to use bottle water to brush my teeth and thinking of stopping at a truck stop to take showers cause basically our tap water even stinks and you can't get soap to lather at all so feel slimier after the shower.
So I am thinking I would rather have to ration the water than basically might as well have farm pond water coming out the facets.

We have been FINALLY get rain the last 2 weeks now. Heres the weird part(I have no clue why), my truck started squeaking and it was annoying so i took viscotine and sprayed all the bushings, well it lasted about a week and the squeeks came back, 2 days later it rained, and my truck stopped squeaking after i was coming back to my house, it wasnt raining when i left and the second i got down my nasty mud roads, the squeaking stopped. I havnt heard it since.

Damn I love our well, no water restrictions, and even if there was, i got a pond, and a pump, my truck would still be clean.
