Does the use of the Diablo Predator chip eliminate the Lemon Law options too? I'm not even sure if Lemon Law would apply without the chip in the mix. Just a thought.
Here is my take on it. Get a PCM from DP-Tuner and keep your old one as a "warranty" PCM. Otherwise, it could screw up your warranty claim. After all, if you are pumping more power than it was designed to, based on stock specs or you change shift points, again stock specs, or you rev it too high, again stock, they can blame it on the unit.
Your right. That was also the explanation I got from the service rep. He explained to me that the only reason they are able to perform the needed work on my truck is because of the past history with the trans. Otherwise I would just have to cough up the money.
did your od light start flashing at anytime prior to the spewfest? my x did the same thing spring break 05 dragging my 10k toybox at 80 then i realized how fast i was going and it never flashed a light either. i made it last another 2 years until this year and wiped out third gear coming back from a 3k trip dragging the box. pulled trans out myself took it to a buddies shop and built a bullet proof unit with goodies and tricks for $1750.00. very happy with result. bts trans are good from what i hear but when budget talks you find ways to make it work..stay tuned still tuning valve body in see ya! good luck
I had absolutely no warning signs what so ever. I told the dealer that there was no lights or anything that came on when it happened. They replied the X doesn't have a trans temp warning. So the only sign I had that it was running a little hot was the trans temp probe I put in with my gauges. It was reading around 190-200.
I had a mag-hytech ( http://www.xtremediesel.com/index.as...S&Category=174 )deep trans pan put in which adds an additional 2 gals of fluid and has cooling fins on the bottom of the pan. I also added an additional trans oil cooler. I hope that does the trick for a while.

Once again the dealer doesn't know what he's talking about. There is an overtemp warning in the X that will flash the OD light if the trans gets too hot.
It sets either at 250 or 270F. I'm not sure which one.
So Mark,
Question for you, I wonder why when mine tranny went, there was no warning. The OD light never flashed and my gauges were only reading about 200 or so.
Thanks for all the great information you provided. I deffinately will think twice about what ever the dealer says from now on.

It's likely that the low speed, uphill towing overheated the torque converter. This will cause the converter hub seal to relax, allowing fluid past it. Once the seal cools off it will work again. The seal can do this several times before it is damaged enough that it fails completely. There is an aftermarket seal that is better at high temperatures than the Ford seal.
Since you say your temps didn't go over 200, I'll assume you mean in the pan or test port, which is where I would measure temps. That's not hot enough to flash the light, and there is no light that flashes for a bad seal.
i read in the tow forum if you plan on backing up your rv or heavy load a longer than normal distance it is best to engage you 4X4 if you have it to keep the converter and trans temp down because your not drawing enough aif flow thru cooler to disipate the heat! i use this myself and it works kinda hard to back fighting the extra axle but should this method be used also in low speed heavy pulling situtations anybody care to comment?
I think the idea you're following is actually to use 4LO when backing. This is best for those trucks withOUT ESOF. Otherwise you have to wire it up so the auto hubs don't engage and can engaged with a separate switch when needed.
The increased RPM from being in 4LO is what drives the fan faster.
