Exclamation Transmission problems again.

Over the weekend I took the family camping. The trip started out great but right as we were arriving at the camp site, the transmission was just dumping all the fluid out, right at where the torque converter meets the engine. I was towing about 7000lbs and only doing 35 up the narrow canyon road. No warning lights came on or anything. Tranny temp was around 190-200.

I have a 2001 X 7.3 PSD with 66500 miles. I have never had any issues with the motor. Its been great. I have had 3 previous issues with the transmission. Its been rebuilt once, replaced another time, and serviced a bad solenoid. Now this happens! Anybody else had or having the same problems?

Dealer just called and said it was a bad seal and possibly a bad torque converter. 1600 bucks! He's checking to see if the warranty will cover sinse I used a Diablo Predator chip set at tow mode. Would this effect the warranty???

had the same problem it was the torque converter sliping creating heat and boiling the fluid out, had a triple billet clutch put in and a trans go kit no problems since. this happened twice with stock tc's . good luck with the dealer, but the higher lockup pressure is a good thing on the chip

Hence I don't buy Ford where possible. The warranty is great until they see there is a chip. I bought a BTS trans for 3900 and if I roast it tomorrow, he doesn't really care why it happens. Send it back for a new one. Even after the warranty is up, he takes care of it for a token sum, so I'm told. Hope you stop pissing money away at Ford.

Firstly, I didn't give myself that title. I think it is done by the post count. Not that it matters in the least to me.

Secondly, I bought a Ford truck because it was the best platform I knew of. I don't deny that. Look at what Savaged1 has to pay. Because of the chip, they won't warranty it. So, effectively, it has no warranty. Why would I buy Ford parts then?

Indeed, as with all manufacturer's; the equipment is made by the lowest bidder.

With the aftermarket, in most cases, the stuff is higher quality. BTS trannies are a buy-it-once kinda deal.

I am located in Salt Lake City, UT. Is anyone out my way or know of a good trans shop out here? BTS sounds like a great tranny but a bit out of the way for me. My truck is still at the dealer while they decide wether to do it under warranty beacause of the history of the repeat problems I've had or I will have to cough up the 1600 bucks.

Betontheturtle,
Your right, I did notice slipping in the trans and that is also where it leaked is at the torque converter.

aklim, no insult intended. It just struck me funny. Sorry if I offended you...

Why? You can have it shipped to your location in a nice trans box. They can R&R the trans and put the old one in the box and you drop it off to Fedex Freight and forget about it.

Lets say you cough up the $1600 (assumption that you didn't pluck that money from the tree in your backyard). What if it breaks again? Another $1600? This will nickle and dime you to death.

Not really offended. Just explaining my position to you. Unfortunately, I didn't do that good a job. Monsta did a better one liner than I could have done.

Just got off the phone with the dealer. They are gonna replace the pump seal and torque converter under warranty due to all the previous issues I 've had with the trans.

Few....Looks like I got lucky on that.

Aklim, wanna mail me some of your money tree seeds. My tree is runnin low on green. I guest I will start budgeting for a new trans from BTS. I know this one is gonna die again, its a given after 4 times in the shop already.

I should be getting my truck back in a couple of days. Thanks for all the help and replies...

You lucked out then. You are living now on borrowed time. Use it wisely and save up for a trans.

What are you talking about? I was hoping you had that tree in your yard.

Does the use of the Diablo Predator chip eliminate the Lemon Law options too? I'm not even sure if Lemon Law would apply without the chip in the mix. Just a thought.
