CPS knowledge can be very confusing, that's why I cut through it all and got you a part#. Technically, that CPS is for the OBS trucks (Old Body Style ~ '91 - '97) but if you read through the thread that I linked to previously, you'll see that data-logging was done showing that this one outperforms the grey CPS.
I hate to bring this post back from the dead but I have a 2001 F350 and I went to start it today and it would not start the tach does not move and I have never noticed this before. Should the tack move in a 2001 when you try to start it?
Pretty crazy but the CPS in my excursion went out this week too.
Thanks
I would check all your large fuses.. Maybe the fuel bowl heater fuse is bad.. It will keep the engine from starting..
2001 F350
When I first attempted to start the truck this morning the tach never moved. I reading the first few CPS threads I tried again, and the tach moved a little but the motor would not start. So I figured something was flakey.
I called Ford and they said my 2001 was not under the recall. I gave them my VIN. I am not the orginial owner but I don't think it was done before. I bought the international CPS sensor and the truck does start and run with it. I notice that the motor does idle better.
2000 Excursion
Ford did the CPS early this week. I noticed that the truck was louder and sounded a little stronger then before. I will try and see which truck works better.
Pretty crazy I lost two of the same sensors in one week.
I'm guessing that the CPS replacement from Ford is a one time thing.
I guess it is good that they are fixing them regardless of the mileage. My honda was under a recall for the transmission and Honda would not honor the recall because I had over 100,000 miles on the car. At least Ford is standing buy thier products.
Becuase the new gray ones from Ford are begining to not only die early deaths like their predecessors, but several members have also checked rotational velocities on the cylinders and the new CPS units are sometimes (maybe often) taking two of the cylinders out of specification range - decreased mileage, etc.
I dont have an International dealer within 200 miles, and cant find them on DP Tuner website. I have a gray one in right now, and have noticed the rough idle. I was wondering where to get a black one online. I have been using search engines and come up with nothing.
Sorry to hijack, but I think I need to get rid of the gray one.

I just checked and couldn't find it there either. I sent a message off to Diane, so I'm sure she'll stop by Monday and let you know how to order one.

oh yes, i have seen the gray ones go out a few times myself. But my question is, if you have a black sensor installed in your truck, why not just go have a gray one installed at the Ford dealer for free under the recall, instead of paying 25 bucks for one just to install it yourself??? If anything, get a new one installed, and keep a spare in the glovebox like you always do. Save 25 bucks and your own labor. Also, if the one ford installs goes out, bring the truck back to them.

Depending on how long it may take your local dealer to get to the recall, it may be worth the $25 to just do it yourself.
You do bring up an interesting point though. What kind of warranty, if any, is there on the recalled CPS?
I have seen the black sensors on ebay, they use to be 2 for $50.00 shipped. But I was in a rush and my Ford dealer want 31.00 for the new gray CPS and International wanted $40.00 for the black CPS sensor. So $9.00 is worth the piece of mine.
If some one is really in need and will pay me via paypay I can pick one up from my international dealer on the way home from work. I won't charge any thing extra, just parts plus shipping.
Thanks
This is the link for the black CPS. $24.99 shipped it is the fors
Guys, I would NOT put to much faith in the Ford CPS. Thank God I bought the extended warranty with mine I had 6 CPS's go bad in a 7 week time span. Imagine that bill for 6 tows and 7 weeks of a rental truck from Enterprise. Then I still had to take it back and have the CPS replaced again when the recall came out.
