Make sure they get you the new CPS - it's gray in color and should only run you about $25. Call around, find one that has the gray and will sell to you for $25 (or less!!) and go there. There have been reports here that some dealers are refusing to sell the new cheaper ones until their old stock is depleted. Get a name too when you call!!
HOLLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to Ford and the grey one there is $190.93. There was one from a post earlier the exact same part with the exact same part number as my Ford Dealer and it was only $25.00. Went by the ZONE and got another one. I will order one from the person above, but for now I gota do what I gota do. Taking lots of tools and parts. Wish me luck!!! Thanks again for all the help.

Holy Cow is right, you should have called them on it. Should not have been more that $30.00. Oh yeah, good luck.
You must have gotten a parts counter rep @ your Ford dealer that does not know about all the trouble that has gone on with the original BLACK CPS.
There is at least 1 guy selling brand new GRAY FORD CPSs on Ebay for under $50.00 to your door for 2 of them!
They're still charging those kinds of ridiculous prices for the old version, which is black and has the letter "A" at the end of the part number. The gray ones are all about 24.99, though. Sounds like you went to a dealer with whom you are NOT going to want to do any further business.
OK, GOOD NEWS!!! I called 2 other dealers and the price from them was $26.77. I called my dealer back and told them. He said he looked at the wrong number. The part number ending in A was $190 bucks. This part number endimg in B was $26.77 he had 2, I bought both. I drove the 150 miles, tried to start the truck. No dice. I put in the new grey Ford sensor and it started right up and ran perfectly all the way home. Also the tach does work while starting, reading about 400 rpm. I will go back to the ZONE tomorow and return the other 2. Thanks again guys for all your help.
I hate to bring this post back from the dead but I have a 2001 F350 and I went to start it today and it would not start the tach does not move and I have never noticed this before. Should the tack move in a 2001 when you try to start it?
Pretty crazy but the CPS in my excursion went out this week too.
LOL... Yeah, this is an old one. I think it was 2002 when the tach trick was taken away -- I know mine DOESN'T move when cranking, and I have an '02. 2001 & older have different PCM codes.
2002 & newer = tachy no movey
2001 & older = tach will move while cranking IF the CPS is good
If you have an International Dealer close enough, go by there and get PN 1821720C99 - that's the black CPS and should run between $50 - $60. HERE is a thread about why that one is likely the best for your truck.

Strange, I just went out and fired mine up twice just to make sure.....tach never moved while it was cranking.
Truck Build date: 10/00
Engine Build: 09/29/00
My was flashed for the Ford Reman trans (2003 vs 2001) but that was about it, they never flashed my engine. If they did, I wouldn'tve been able to use my tuner after that.
