oh and by the way, this isnt by any means a show truck. im in it for about 200 dollars right now, and am just trying to get her looking a little better as cheaply as possible. the outside is covered with rust, so im not trying to make a show interior or anything.. just something to keep me from getting tetnus from the floorboards lol.
In my old '63 Chevy, I used the rubberized undercoating (3M, not the cheap crap). It was less expensive than the bedliner at the time, and I've always had good luck with coating stuff in that before. It did, however, take a LONG time to cure properly... so take that into concideration.
Later, I applied some of the cheap carpet that comes in a big roll from wally world (it's in the automotive department and costs roughly $8-$9). It comes in black, grey, and tan. That'll require a little cutting, but actually looked fairly nice! I even used it to cover the gas tank behind the seat.
All in all, it cost me about $20 to do my entire floor that way, and it helped keep road noise down, as well as help with heat. I recommend it to anyone who has a truck they don't want to put a lot of money into, but still want it to look halfway nice.
if you spray anything make sure you sand that surface up first other wise you'll be chippin everything off easily, and home depot sells black van carpet by the foot, I think I paid $25 beans in 99 to cover the floor in my d-50
well, i sprayed 2 coats of ''gunk'' rubber undercoating on the pass. side and tranny hump. that was 48 hours ago, and its almost fully cured. i had to give a few people rides here and there, so theres a few spots that arent perfect, but overall for 5 bucks to do half the floor, im happy.
ill do the drivers side thurdsday or friday night and post some before/after pics.
i didnt tape anything off, and didnt pull the seat out. im only painting the sides between the seat and door, and the whole front from a little bit under the seat all the way up the kick panel.
I've been looking at the kits on ebay by liner extreeme, It's a two part spray on. Not too high priced, I think I could do my van for $400, which is less than half of what any shop would charge.
If there is anyone in the Norfolk, VA area that wants to try doing their own let me know and we can team up on ordering and save some money.
That's the big kit. If it will do four 6 foot beds, then it should do 13 feet of van interior. Plus I want it up the sides some and a little thinker on the floor.
if i ever get around to it--- hopefully tomorrow--- ill post pics. i spend a whopping 6 bucks- 3 bucks a can X2, to do the floor. i just did under the sides and front of the bench seat foward.. didnt take out the seat or do behind the seat.
