shim or reuild??

ok so I cleaned the little screen on the FPR today (20min job turned into 5hrs......don't ask) but all is good, when i finished I checked the fuel pressure 4 times and found it to be between 40 and 50 psi, which I believe is a little low since recommended pressue is 70-75, so the question is, should I just shim it with a BB or buy a rebuild kit for it. I know alot of people just shim it, but I wanted to see if there is any argument for rebuilding instead of shimming.
TIA

So if I understand you only cleaned the screen and did not shim it. If that is true and you have checked the pressure, I would do the BB mod. Mine went from 55 pre mod to 75 post mod and no problems. If you have over 80 remove the BB and let us know because there is an adjustable mod you can do but I think you will be fine with the BB. My Answer ... Definately Shim and it will only take you 20 mins this time, I promise, Since you know where you are now.

it would have only taken 20 min this time except for the fact that I dropped the o-ring twice when I was putting the FPR back together, and the second time the screen fell out too, so in the end the fuel-bowl assembly ended up coming out, so I did a little cleaning while I had access to the intake. and you are correct, I checked fuel pressure after cleaning the screen, I will shim the regulator in the next couple of days and see what it puts my pressure at. other than idling smoother did you notice any performance difference?? Neal, I want thank you, the link you posted to stevebaz has been very helpful in learning about the psd and some simple mods to do. thanks

You are quite welcome. It is kind of a standard place to send people to get them started and for reference for all of us. There is alot of info out there for us. I usually add the sites to my favorites so I can use them for reference. I really have a bunch by now.

40-50 psi is stock, 75-80 is max allowed safely by the book, bb should put you right there, wont really see any performance gain, maybee a bit of smoke but it sets you up for later down the road
