I was playing on E-Pay last night and found a '61 Short bed Unibody. I've always wanted a unibody.
I've been working hard to gather all the parts to blow my '57 apart and completely modernize it (Mustang II front, T-Bird rear, 289/C4, mustang gas tank, aluminum radiator, power discs all 4 corners, fixing the body rot, American Torq Thrust Ds, etc) and almost have everything to start the work.
I'm watching this auction and decide so are a bunch of other people. It goes off at 5:00 AM my time so I figure I'll look in the morning and see what it sells for. As of 11:30, it's only at $150 and not met the reserve.
I wake up in the middle of the night, walk around a while and when I look at the clock it's 4:55. I get on the puter and it's up to 200.00. I throw a little bid on it and get it for 202.50. It's only 90 miles from my house. It is pretty decent looking for a project and I figure it gives my '57 a little brother. I always wanted a brother and I didn't want the '57 to look back after the next 50 years thinking the same thing. It started in '57 and I started in '58 so I know how it thinks.
Is that so wrong? You can look at my new toy at bid number 120148466793. Imagine how proud my wife is! I promise to get the '57 up on it's new suspension and driving before starting the '61. I pointed out that since she's a little upset with me right now, I could finish both trucks and she could pick which one she wanted to drive so we both had our own truck to take to shows. Somehow that hasn't improved her mood this morning. Women.
I have a wonderful wife of almost 18 yrs. and we still have small "dissagreements" on my vehicle purchases...but after 4 bikes and somewhere around 30 cars\trucks she has figured out there is no changing me and I really mean no harm.
My only advice...do for her before you do for yourself. That way she has already gotten something SHE wanted.
Cause if mama aint happy...nobody's happy!
Good luck with the unibody toy.

There are support groups for times like these. I encourage full use of them, especially since they are cheap or free, and the only drawback is they may take up all the time in the day. Meanwhile you'll be working on your trucks.
The first thing you should have done is inform her you bought her a new truck. That's what I told my wife when I bought my F-4. It didn't seem to work all that good but when she would mention it I would remind her it's her truck
As for buying another truck, I think my signature says it all.
What I told my wife when I brought my '52 home was It'll be worth more when i fix it right, then we can make a big profit from it. Everytime I get aggrevated and tell her it's time to get rid of it she gets mad and says no your gonna keep it, that things worth money, But i had the truck 2 years before we got married and had to convince her to let me bring it home from my mom's
The key phrase is "i had the truck 2 years before we got married ", you're a wuss, if you had it before you got married she should have known you had the sickness. I had my F-2 way before I got married, my dad bought it when I was 8 or 9. I told my intended at the time that the truck was my baby and I would never get rid of it so if she wanted me she had to accept my truck. She agreed but didn't realize what she was in for, three trucks and 15 parts trucks later she still puts up a fight when I drag another one home but after 20 years of marriage I figure she better get use to it. She doesn't yell as much as she did at the beginning.
I could be sitting in a bar every night wasting money but I'm home every night and although I would never get more than what I put into a truck I don't lose money either.
Good score, at $202.50 it`s a great deal and close to home.
Hopefully your wife will understand your desire for it and see the good side.
Luckily my wife never minds when I bring home another orphan or a project, got to love that.
Congrats on the Uni!!! The wife will warm to it (eventualy)
I've been with my wife for 17 years and we've been married for 12. I came into the relationship with severla cars, trucks, motorcycles, and tractors. I still bring thing shome from time to time and she does put up a fuss (I think its just for appearances though) Just last night I made an offhand comment about giving my Jeepster Commando away and she stated that I can't do that (even though since I got the thing she's been grumbling about it)
No not a Wuss, The only reason I had to convince her to let me bring it home, which when I say convince I don't mean "Honey please I'll get on my knees" Was she was worried about them getting onto us for having too many unlicensed vehicles around the house, and after i told her that it would fit in the garage where it belongs WE decided it would be ok. So don't automatically assume we are all whopped by our wives my wive knew I had the truck with full intentions of fixin' it one day. I've had 2 dump trucks, a 71 dodge d-600 and a variety of cars and truck at my house without having to ask permission from anybody. The way I see it either she goes and they stay, or she stays and they stay.
