I have a 2000 f150 4.2V6 2wd manual trans. I installed larger tires (BFG AT/KO 265/70/17) and lost horsepower as expected. Now I'd like to change the gear ratio but I don't know what it has now. Where the code is supposed to be is blank. Could anyone tell me what I might have and any suggestions on what I should put? I was thinking 3.55's. Am I wrong?
lets say you tires were 29 inches in diameter and you increased that to 32 inches. that would be 3 inches more or 10%. to keep the same ratio, if you had a 3.20 axle you would want 10% or .32 more so 3.52 would be 10% and the 3.55 ratio would be a good choice.... measure your tires and get your old ratio. you might go a little extra since the new tires are heavier, and the lower ratio will also give you a little more grunt at the low end takeoff.
OK. I looked at the pumpkin and it said 3.08??? Is this job of changing the diff ratio hard? I kinda know my way around a truck but I'm definatly NOT ASE certified. I also want to put a body lift on,I was thinking about 3". Can anyone recommend a product?
