So I'm about to do a full tune up on a 1990 460 efi. I was wondering if anyone had good or bad experiences with different products I.E plugs wires? I'm going to replace the cap rotor wires and plugs. Also change the oil and filter maybe run a fi cleaner through it first. What do you guys think?
My only advice is DON'T USE THE CHEAP CRAP, avoid the economy grade parts, its much more worth the money to get a decent product the first time.
I have a buddy who works a CarQuest and gets me employee cost on parts, I've never had any problems with the highest grade CarQuest parts.
Of course apply plenty of antisieze to the threads of the sparkplug, also use plenty of the clear grease on the inside of the plugwire boots, the grease keeps the boots from getting stuck onto the plug.
Also swivel plug sockets are your friends, have a variety of socket extensions and swivels on hand. Its a pain in the butt doing a tune up on my 96 I cant see a bigole 460 making the job any easier.
If your gonna run fuel injector cleaner through it do it well the old plugs are still in there, no sense gumming up the new ones.
Make sure to get the fuel filter disconnect tool at the auto part store. Its only around 5-10 bucks and you pretty much need it when your taking the filter off so u don't tear up any of the couplings or fuel lines.
