If someone asks the question Why? when discussing Flatmotors they don't and never will get it.
I can only glance at modern engines, they are just flatout uuugly, however I can sit and stare at a Flathead for hours.
You can plug in a computer chip on your modern engine and add 50 hp in seconds, I can take days of tweeking this and that on a Flatmotor and maybe get 10 hp, it's a beautiful thing.
I'm having trouble seeing the puter screen, the tears are just welling up.

Amen, Don't worry there are a few of us here in this valve cover world.
We should REALLY try to get the Flathead forum back humming again, even if not just technical questions, even if we get atleast 5 active members who just talk about anything old truck releated could become a good chapter, whoes in? lets save the flathead Forum.
i don't frequent the flathead forum but some of us do, as well as the 47 and earlier crowd, and maybe the stray 1997-2003 f series guy looking to drop a flattie in his new fangled computerized truck that's starting to rack up the miles, lol.
Oh man that is awesome, work of art. Sad thing is probably a Flathead is a better chioce for a anchor. That Chev (spit) motor would rust away to nothing in minutes and the boat would just float aawwaayy, face it a Chevy small block doesn't have a use that man has thought of yet.

You know, I've got nothing against most engines, including the SBC. I own one now, have owned a half dozen, they're a fine engine. It's all good! Just some funnin'...
Ya guess I'm usually the first to take it over the line, wait a minute you said you got a sbc, uhoh not another one in the darkside.
sorry to offended, but I spent many and many hours on a old Massey combine with a straight piped 327 Chevy motor, and I know the can work dang hard in harsh conditions, and when the used small blocks in tandem grain trucks, that's extremely impressive.
But we gotta give the darksiders a rough time, don't we???

yep they're all good like albuq said . there are so many chev's out there that eventually you're gonna own one , plus i'll admit they are damn inexpensive to build . when i was racing i eventually went with 'em as they were so dain plentiful , and my ford's just cost so much to build . if it say's anyting on the parts sheet other than the bowtie it seemed the price automatically doubled , then went from there back in the day .... now the only appropriate place for a flatyy on water would be in one of those beautiful ol' {i think } kris kraft wooden works of art boats !!!!!
