We have had a primered one in our garage for 13 years. It has all of the original parts and I believe my husband said a 302 engine that needs some work. We would like to sell it......son going to college, but have no idea what to ask. I thought maybe you might help. There is NO damage to any of the body work. Can you suggest a price?
We live in Sacramento. I am going to take pictures tonight. If you send me an e-mail address I can send them to you as I do not know how to with this site. I was on e-bay and there is one that looks just like it that is primered.
Sales value of small rear window in Sacramento I would estimate at $1,000 to $5,000 depending on completeness, rust and bodywork needed. Highend price would have no rust through in fenders, roof drip rail, door bottoms, with good running boards, doors, tailgate, bed not beatup or front bed metal stetched, no fender cracks/tears, few dents. Subtract $1,000 if it doesn't run.
Average '56 truck, in primer, stock except 302 with C4 trans and decent tires I estimate at $2,400. Advertise in Cruisin News.
jeanine sent me some pics, from what I can see it has the usual rot in the cab corners and looks like the upper rear fenders below the hood hinges are rusted. Not a big window, not a custom cab. Not sure why the truck is in primer but it does show rust coming through in various places on the cab and bed. Other than the engine, the only other aftermarket addition I could see was the aluminum wheels. It's hard to tell from a couple of photos how much undesirable stuff is under the primer or how much effort/dollars it would take to get it roadworthy again. IMHO the only way that a value is going to be determined is to get it advertised and have some interested buyers come by and take a look at it, but to do that you'll have to put a price on it.
Jeanine, Trucks like this need to be fished to prospective buyers. You place an ad, price high as you can and get feedback. A high price will not sell, and then you lower it until it does. Some may offer you a price, but just take numbers at first until you have enough info/prices to accept an offer. I do not care for this method as it brings a lot of lookie-loos and dreamers, but sometimes if an owner knows not what he has, it is one way to find out the worth. It may be worth more to a guy with more money than experience and just "must have" the 56.
When I do sell a vehicle, I qualify the buyer first and ask 3 basics.
1: do you have the asking price in cash?? if yes go to #2
2: do you need to "sell something" first? If no, go to # 3
3: Do you need to "talk to your "old lady" first" ? If no, I make an appointment and ask them to bring a down pymt. as I don't "hold" cars while a person "thinks about it".
It is amazing the quality of buyer this brings to the door. Works every time in the last 30 sales for me and the folks I help sell cars for.
A wish of luck from me to you on this. Sincerely, Jon
