I am new to this forum and I think I will stay around great site.
My question is I have a 2002 7.3 and back by the muffler there is a tube (Rubber) that when I drive my truck it will have smoke or steam coming out of it ?
The tube is attached to the rear Diff so it looks like I have a leak in my muffler.
what is that for and is that normal?
I am new to the Diesels and I am concerned that there is something wrong?
It is probably a CCV mod hose. Trace it to the front and I bet it goes to the driver side valve cover. If it is, someone has done the Crank Case Ventilation mod and you are one step ahead.
The mod reroutes the CCV vapors ouside of the truck instead of into the intake in front of the turbo where the intake ingests this oily mist IOT be burned. This oily mist collects in the intake plumbing and IC causing boot leaks.

Thanks DH
Whoops, just read that again. By attached do you mean it is secured to the diff, or the hose connects to the diff vent. If it is the diff vent tube, ignore my last post. If it is the diff vent tube, I don't think it is supposed to smoke. Trace that hose please.
Thank You I will trace it when I get home.
I am guessing it goes up there because it is above the gas tank in the frame and coming from the front of the truck.
