1972 f-250 problems
I have a 1972 f-250 with a 390 in it that i had just put headers on and rebuilt the carb. When I start the truck it has a loud vaccum leak coming from inside of the carb. If you use the choke the noise isn't so loud but it will at least idle roughly. When you turn the choke off the noise is loud again and the truck backfires and dies if u let off the throttle. Its a very wierd problem i have never seen it but any help would be very appreciated. Thanks

The idle screw is still adjusted to where it was when I removed the carb and the air mixture screws are about one and three quarter turns out. I got a tip to check the spacer plate for wear and to double check the gaskets. Let me know what you think thanks.

It does sound like you got a vacuum hose off somewhere, or the gasket under the carb is leaking. From the way your talking a leak that bad is more like the pcv valve hose off or cracked or the brake booster hose off or cracked or the gasket under the carb.
