Yes prep work is vital. I had my Daughters help me one time to sand a van down for painting. They thought it was stupid of how much sanding I do to finalize the van for painting.
I start with 150, then 200or 240 then finish again the whole vehicle with 300. You can use 400, but somepaints do not adhere good to 400 grit sanded vehicles and at car washes off comes the paint.
Seen many a car where the paint peels.
Also when painting with a paint gun sprayer. Hold your hand with fingers splayed open. That will give you the safe distance to spray. You try to maintain that distance over the whole car while painting. The trick is not to bend the wrist at the end of a stroke or pass with the paint gun and letting go of the trigger to prevent too much spray that will run. It will take practise.
Good luck if you do it yourself.
my FIL almost has me talked into doing it myself, he's done some b4 and is confident that we can do a good job. i think white will be a forgiving one to work with.
Well I have painted 7? trucks I think, I think I'm getting better... Tonight I just finished my 300 sanding, but If this truck gets to cruise it will be kinda a rushed sand/paint job.
Sorry to hear about your truck Corner Gas, We were camping at Echo Valley this weekend and it hailed a little on Friday night. Thank goodness there was no damage. All I could think about hearing the hail on the roof of the trailer was if my truck was getting damaged!
this will sound weird comming from me, but when its hailing outside i really wish i had a dogde or chebby. wouldn't really give a rats azz if it got damage. would have to put a FORD drivetrain in it though as it would need to be reliable...
