I used a small piece of plastic for a scraper then finished it off with scotchbrite. Never had a single problem. Made my contacts look just like the pics with a little bit of copper showing on the contact edges with the rest remaining silver.

I've used a clean pencil eraser to clean electrical contacts on circuit boards. just make sure you clean the rubber pieces off after your finished. It actually polished the contacts bright. Also make sure you get all the garbage off the contacts before you use the pencir eraser.
