Tru cool

Is there any auto parts stores that carry the Tru Cool 4379? I think that is the right part # for the 40K model? If not where the cheapest place to buy one?

You could try a hotrod shop, they usually carry an asortment of coolers. Most mega-auto part stores (AZ ect) don;t carry them around here. Some of the independant guys do though.

So I could get it tomorrow and install it. Also easier if I need to take it back.

I dont think you will have very much luck finding it locally. I looked around in my town and the only thing that was available was Hayden coolers. The sooner you push the buy button, the sooner it will get to your house!

Seriously buy online you can return if necessary but you won't have to.

I love my new one. I don't have gauges yet but after running down the highway for a while I pulled over last night and the return line I could hold my hand around for a while. The to line was hot as hell.

I'm trying to decide if I need the bypass valve or not. Let me make sure I understand what it's for. When the outside temp. gets cold enough the tranny fluid will bypass your tranny cooler until it gets to certain temp then start flowing through tranny cooler to obtain proper operating temp.? Is that about right? Also, what is considered outside cold enough temp to need the bypass? I live in middle Tn. and it can get cold here but never really for very long. We do have days where it will be in lower to mid teens in early mornings.

I believe the instructions say 32deg. F. or lower needs a bypass valve. This leads me to believe that I can take it out of the radiator all together?

The tranny will create its own heat and will then open up the bypass valve in the winter time.

What do you all think?

I kinda like the idea of regulating the tranny temp. Having a thermostat (Thermal Break) does just that. I'm not expert but i believe that the clearances in the tranny were designed to work at a certain temp, what ever that is. Without the thermostat the tranny just runs at what ever the ambient temperature is cooling it. Running it though the radiator helps the tranny get up to temp quickly and the thermostat helps it maintain it. There is such a thing as running the tranny too cold I imagine, just like the engine. Have you ever seen the inside of an engine that was run with a stuck or no thermostat, the oil gets milky from condensation. My 10 cents with 8 cents change.
