Tru cool vs other tranny coolers

Can anyone tell me if there is anything special about the tru cool, or is it just another tube fin cooler that costs more than the auto parts store brands. I am just curious b/c I need to get a tranny cooler this week and want to get the best bang for the buck, So is the tru cool any better than auto parts store brands and what makes it better. Thanks.

This is the one I have. click here. I like the fact that it sits 1st in line with the other coolers, so it gets the coldest air.

The Tru-Cool Rick linked is just the V-10 cooler that you run inline with your stocker. They are about the same put together as the 6.0L cooler. I just put the 26-row in mine and the temps dropped 50 degrees! 190ish empty to 140ish. About 95 degree ambient temps.

Hey Joe, I just got the brand new 31 row cooler in friday. I THOUGHT I still had the stocker in, but apparently when ford replaced my transmission two years ago, they put in the V10 cooler. The repair invoice listed the stocker, and looking at if from above or below, I couldn't tell it wasn't stock. But when I pulled it out, it was the 13 row V10 and not the 9 row stocker. Either way, the 31 row cooler has dropped mine about the same (50 degrees or so, kind hard to tell exactly on this half sweep gauge). Running around yesterday in about 90 degree weather (unloaded) I was between the 100 degree and 140 degree tic marks. I think I'm going to replace the half sweep with the full sweep in the near future. Anyway, that 31 row cooler definitely cooled it down. Anyone interested in the V10 cooler?

Here are my before & after temp gauge pics after the same exact drive home in about the same 95 degree temps:

I have no regrets with the Tru-cool I put in. It was easy to install and bolts on nicely the front clip, and dropped temps way down. I haven't seen anything near 170 since I installed it and that's in the stop and go traffic. Cruising is around 150.
But if I were to do it again, I'd go the route Joe did and get a 26 or 31 6.0 cooler.

Sorry for the crappy pic, this is while driving. Highest it got during a combined trip of 280 miles of mixed driving

Edit. I'm sure the tru cool is great in addition to the stocker. But with the V10 by intself, my numbers were just like what Joe posted above. If I hadn't gotten this one for a great deal, i was going to do the tru-cool. But for a brand new 31 row cooler for 125 bucks, I couldn't pass it up. I did have a hard time getting the old one out, well not really hard, I guess I was just afraid I'd fubar all the fins up on the intercooler or AC condensor. BTW those little fuggers (fins) are sharp. I had a few places on my arms with tiny papercut like scratches. Luckily I didn't mess anything up, but I did notice I have a small coolant leak. I thought it was from the old, cracked reservoir I just replaced, but I guess not. This is the area I noticed coolant.. Where's the weep hole. Water pump leaking? Only a little bit, but it gets blown around.

Oh yeah. I've seen the ads for the V10 that say it is rated for 40K GVWR, what is the 31 row rated for? Pic for reference. My old one and the new one.

Is the tru cool a tube and fin design or is it more advanced?

Tru-Cool is just a V10 cooler without the mounting brackets. Same exact one otherwise.

When I put mine in, I pulled the I/C out. It was only a few more steps, and made it MUCH easier to access the cooler. I would suggest going that way, even though I had intentions of putting the 6.0L I/C in at the same time. Had a boot issue that I thought was covered. That will be fixed shortly (Thanks Clay!! ).

If the math works out, the 26 row is roughly 80k, so the 31 row must be close to 100k!

EDIT: BTW, the weep hole is on the neck of the water pump that sticks out under the pulley. That looks like ELC too!

so the weep hole is underneath the pully? this is on top of the water pump, just to the side and below where the ?heater hose? connects. i assume that is the hose to the heater. I thought maybe I had a slight leak around the clamp for that hose, but it doesn't appear that way. Just a slight leak, a tiny puddle, but nothing really dripping to the driveway. maybe a drop or two. I've been keeping an eye on it, but hope to find it something easy and simple.

That smaller cooler don't look like mine. If that is a v-10 cooler, then I have something different. My cooler looks like the pic in the link I gave. All the way down at the bottom of the page.

The cooler itself is the same. Your link was to dieselsite. they have the V10 like i showed above as well. Only difference (as far as I know) is the mounting hardware, and the hard line on mine vs. the rubber hoses with the tru-cool. http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=480
