I don't know of anybody using this particular kit, but I have heard of a lot of people doing this mod from scratch and having good success. The kit would be nice to make things easier
I just installed this on my 89 F350. Plug and play installation. The instructions are somewhat hard to read (language translation), but following the diagram made it easy. Works great!
It lets the bulbs get the full 12-13v vs 10. Stock harness has resistance and uses some volts up.
Exactly true, and if you run higher wattage bulbs like I did , and burn up 2 switches, then you will want the harness. I have it on 2 of my 3 trucks at the moment. Probably put it on the other later, but the 88 F150 has a different style switch, so it might be better than the 92-up switches.
It is a set relays that hook directly to the battery +post at the starter relay, and then feed directly to the headlight bulbs with fusible links, and larger wire. The orginal switch in the dash, just turns the relays off, or on only. Relays use very little power, so no more bad switches, or burnt wiring harness pigtails.
I have a related question, I just did the 3G 130a swap, if there is roughly a 2 volt drop wouldnt the new altrnator help boost the voltage to the headlights a bit?
That would be only under heavy electrical loads like e-fans, stereo's or etc. for the amp draw. The voltage is suppose to be the same thru out the system, but wiring size, connections, and length cause it to lower. So, there will be a difference in volts from the battery to reading the light bulb voltage thru the stock wiring harness.
curious - is this the kit to turn on the lows when the brights are on (like chevys for example)? if so, Id avoid it cuz having both filaments on in your 9000 series bulb will melt it - literally.
(I used the brights+lows 'kit' on my k2500 by making it myself - 20A breaker, some wires, shrink tubing and a relay - about $8 my cost.)
I was going to do the same mod but use the old harness... now I'm thinking using thicker gauge wire is probably a good idea... from what I've seen you could build your own " kit " allot cheaper than buying the one from lmc
