I just caught then end of a news story about Ford recalling trucks, SUVs, and cars from 92-04 (not sure on the last yr.) for cruise control problems that might cause fires. Anyone else know anything about this?
My wifes Uncle received the recall on his E350 chassied motorhome for that.. all they did was un-plug it.... I thought that was horses**t, what a fix... if that is all they are going to do... let it burn and claim it on insurance... thats my 2 pennies..
It's about the sensor on the end of the master cylinder. I personally seen the aftermath of 2 of those fires, 1 house burnt to the ground, another was caught in time to save the house. Attached Garage and Ford CC=bad news IMO.
firemanp, The reason they unplugged it is they didn't have the replacement part to install. Ran out of stock. This has been known to me for over 2 years or so. I warned everyone I know about the switch. Unplugged and/or replaced them. The dealer has been giving them away to those that know.
If you are having trouble with your CC, unplug that sensor!!!
The repair is to install the new switch from Ford. It has a 6 inch pigtail on it vs just the switch. Not sure if the new one has a fuse or not but I;m guessing they reversed the action of the switch. It's normally closed and opens up when you push on the brake pedal. It's called a Brake Pressure Applied (BPA) switch. It's a redundant switch along with the Brake On Off (BOO) switch.
A normally closed switch is always a bad idea unless it's protected by a fuse IMO, like stuart1 says.
Look at the connection on the switch.
It is at the forward portion of the m/c.
If the line has a fuse you are ok.
If not it's no big deal to install one.
Cut the wire, install fuse assembly.

I'll take a pic and post it since I'm not sure where/what it is.
its the same recall as was applicable to the 97-ups expedition and f-150's but they finaly decided that since the swithc on those trucks is the same pn as ours that gee, maybee we should replace ALL of the ones that have a probblem before we get sued again. its a new sensor with an inline fuse on the harness, no pigtail to splice its a short harness unless they changed for ours but i doubt it, that recall sucked, only paid .1 hours, or 6 minutes.... took longer to go get the vehicle, write it up, get the ticket, wait in line at parts, then go fix it, park the truck , and turn the ticket in
