I have a 2000 F-150 4.6l and was wondering what the best way to recharge the system. I let all the freon out of the system. I bought a new accumulator and am going to install when I know what the best way to recharge the sysetm is. I did not replace the compressor so do I have to add PAG oil and if so how much. I was going to vacuum the system and then add freon. Is this the best way to do this>
With an A/C machine. You will never get it right until you vacuum the system completely for at least an hour to remove any moisture or condensation. Then leave it under vacuum for up to an hour and make sure it holds a vacuum to ensure there is no leaks. Then you can recharge the system. My 1999 4.6 holds a max of 30 ozs. freon and I forget how much PAG it holds. If you completely vacuum the system, you will need to add some oil. How much is up to you. There is a max oil charge # on the A/C sticker, just remember that the more oil in the system, the less freon you can add, thus A/C not as cold. Mine will freze your nuts off......Good Luck...
