Question Why Two Tanks ?

Hello,
I own a 2000 f-150 Lariat, But my work truck is a 1995 f-150 service body. My question is this,Why does this truck have two gas tanks? The total capacity of both tanks is not much more than my lariat.

The 36 gal +- I'm carrying help when I fill it twice a week . Basically clearance issues. With out major frame/ body or loss of spare . The single above spare was max sized for clearance, same for the front they tried to keep above frame line.
Now you truck sits higher and frame Configuration allows for the larger tank.

I like the 2 tanks My co pays to fill one and I the other its easier to keep track of mileage this way. But I do have a 32 gallon Bronco rear tank to put in. Then I'll only fill once a week.

Yea, like he said, you can mod a 36 gal bronco tank in the rear end.
If you have a reciever, you have to change it, thats all.

Well, at least I would have to change mine for this mod.

I doubt that this is an intentional reason for 2 tanks, but it's a reason I love having 2 tanks. I was coming back from an out of town trip; about 30 miles from no where, when the in tank fuel pump went out in the truck. I could tell by the bucking, and then it just died. After getting my thoughts back together I realized that I still had at least a 1/4 tank of gas in the other tank. Flip the switch, and I'm going again. Since then, about 10 years ago, I love having 2 tanks. I NEVER let 1 get below 1/4 tank before switching to the other. This way if I need it, I can get at least 30-40 miles. Anyway, it's nice to have. Later... Mike....

Exactly the reason I like the 2 tank's also. But I have not had a pump go bad yet.

Most of the newer tank's are about 28gal, I think?

I have a 16gal and 19gal. I burn the rear tank first to get the weight off the a$$ end of the truck.

Ford dual tanks range from 14-19 gallons. I'm not sure how they determine them.

Usually 15-16 for the front and 18 for the rear.

The new tanks are 34 I believe, at least in our 2002...
