Why does my single tank 88 F150 have a tank selector valve?
My truck seems to be starving for fuel. Replaced the inline filter and still have the issue. Before I drop the tank to replace the sending unit I noticed the fuel selector valve. Could this be clogged and restricting fuel? Also why would an all original single tank truck even have a selector valve?
Thanks Rick

It's a fuel reservoir and holds about a pint of fuel for the HP pump to draw from. This was fords solution to EFI without tank baffles. In 90 they redesigned the system and had an insert that went into the tank to function as a baffle. That's also when they went to a single in tank pump.
From what I understand only the 85-86 versions had a filter in them and yes, that can choke off fuel.
You could have a bad in tank pump and the HP is doing all the work. I had an issue like that where it would cut out over 2500 rpms.
