I have a '99 Ranger XLT 3.0L 5-SPD. I really want to beef up the motor, without doing too much to void the warranty or break the bank. I have heard about performance chips, K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kits, and thought about a cat-back system (maybe Borla or Gibson?) What would you recommend doing to gain some torque and HP? Also I am looking for someone that sells a Rollbar for my truck. It is a stepside and major distributors don't seem to be interested in producing them for my truck. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!
Matthew: Get a Gibson cat-back exhaust system, in stainless if you can afford it. Get whichever system fits your original hangers, and go for a ride to a muffler shop (with a $20 bill in your pocket so you can make a quick cash deal with the welder). You will feel a big seat-of-the-pants kick with this mod, and better mileage to boot.
Stay away from any chip made by JET, their products and tech support suck. A K&N replacement panel filter is a good investment from a durability standpoint, but I have my doubts about the "HP Increase" claims as the only way they could possibly do that is by revving the wee out of a motor. Beware any system that sucks air from inside the engine compartment, that is HOT air, not COLD air, which is what is needed to make horsepower.

It is true that colder air makes more horses but the k&n filter even if it is sucking from under the hood does help alot. At least I can tell a big diff.
