She has a 1993 Lexus ES300 that she's owned, since it was new.
She had to have it towed to the local repair shop last Saturday.
(It's got 106,000 miles on it, and has been garage kept. No dents, dings or accidents, period.) Well, it did have one little scratch on the driver's side back door, that came out with 'Scratch X', two years ago.
(Her words). . . "The engine just shut off. The radiator exploded and I'm afraid that I need a new engine."
(Me) "What did the repair shop tell you?"
(Her) "He gave me some mumbo-jumbo about a radiator, hoses and thermo-something or the other."
This conversation went back and forth for a couple of minutes.
Bottom line. . . . .
My sister told me, "IF you pay for the repairs, you can have the car!"
It needed a radiator, thermostat and new upper and lower radiator hoses, plus, I had the heater hoses replaced and water pump. ($1,100.00 with the towing charge.)
My dear old sister is afraid to drive a car that has been repaired.
What do you think? A '93 Lexus in GREAT shape for less than $1500, after vehicle inspection and tags!
(And she went out and bought a new Hyundai Elantra!)
great deal man, if ya got the spare change around for it and registering and insuring it, its a steal to you
Don't EVER really have spare change around (for a car) being married, etc., but, what the heck. The car was appraised for almost $4800.
Plus, the insurance is only going to run about $350.00 / 6 months.
It is sort of timely, that this is happening.
My daughter is getting her license soon, so, I'll let her drive the Scion (commuter vehicle) as a PART TIME driver.
Sheeeeeeeeeesshh. Her insurance on the Ranger (listed as Primary driver) will be almost $950/ 6 months!
(Once listed on one of the vehicles, she can drive any of them, except the mini-van.)
