I just bought a '94 Ranger, 2.3L, five speed, and I'm going through it trying to figure out what I've got to do to it, etc. When I run the codes, I get one, a continuous code 224. The Haynes Manual for the truck says 224 is "Spout Circuit Open." The manual that came with the code reader says 224 is "Loss of IDM input to processor/Spout circuit ground/coil 1,2,3 or 4." The Haynes Techbook on Computer Codes says 224 is "PCM detected coil 1,2,3 or 4 primary circuit failure."
Can somebody tell me a more specific interpretation of this code 224? I don't want to tear into something/replace something without a clearer idea of what is going on. The only things I checked before posting this question was (1) to make sure the SPOUT plug was in and secure and (2) to make sure the coil packs were getting full voltage.
