casting #'s

I have a couple of casting numbers that i need more info on. First up is the S code intake I have, C8AE-8425-F. I just want to know what it had come off of. Second is the heads that are on my motor, wich i thought was a 352, but turns out to be a 65 390 block, the heads are C4AE-6090Q.

Most FE engines have 352 cast into the block, regardless of the actual engine size. It could be: 352; 360; 390 on trucks.

The S FE engine code was only used on cars: 1966/69 390 4V; 1967 390 4V GT.

S was also used in 1971/72 as the engine code for a 400, cars only.

No 390 engines in trucks offered a 4 barrel carb till 1973. Trucks: 352/360's were all 2V's

C8AE = 1968 / C4AE = 1964. Both these casting numbers related to parts that were used for several years.

352/360/390 cylinder heads are the same 1965/72. The only difference is that some 1966/67 352 heads were drilled for smog pump manifolds.

Trucks: Thermactor System (smog pump system) used 1966/67 only.

352 used 1965/67 F100/350 / 360/390 introduced in 1968 on F100/350's.

Last year for the FE engines in trucks: 1976 / cars = 1971.

Boring a 352 .050 over, and using 390 pistons, rods and the crank = equals a 390. That's what I did with the truck in my signature.

C8AE-9425-F = C8AZ-9424-C .. Intake Manifold-4V

Fits 1968 390: LTD/Galaxie/Fairlane/Torino/Mustang. & Mercury Marquis/Montego/Cougar.

428 engine code: Q Fits 1968 428: Galaxie/LTD; Mercury Marquis, except P/C (police cruiser).

Cool. Before I thought that I had a 352, but it is starting to look like a 390. I ran the casting # in my book and it said the block was a 390. I am going to have to tear it down again, because when I slid the cam into place, the #2 cam bearing must have slid a little bit, because when i started it up yesterday, there was no oil coming out of the drivers head! So that will be fun in the 105 degree heat we are having here in Montana.
