Alarm

Hey out there.....I recently bought a pre-owned 2000 F-150 XLT and it seems when I park it, get out, lock the doors with the inside lock button, then unlock it with the key in the door, the alarm goes off, or the engine won't crank over. It seems I always need to unlock the alarm with the key fob remote, then all is normal. Can this be programmed or do I have a problem with the alarm system? I was told I may have a "Viper" system but it looks factory installed to me.

There should be a sensor that disarms the alarm when using the key. If properly installed, this would be on both the driver and passenger doors. If this happens when you use the key in either door, then they were probably never installed (installation is considerably easier without them). Otherwise, one may have gone bad. It seems unlikely that both would have failed.
