Was the Excursion involved in the recalls where the master cylinder would leak onto the electical connector and cause the cruise control to short out? I know the F150 and Super Duties all were. You may want to start there njstevens.
Other things to check would be all your fuses (not just the ones that say something about cruise control). Also check to see if your horn works. Some people have had the clockspring in the steering wheel go bad, which causes both the horn and cruise control to stop working.
Thanks for the inputs. I will check other fuses also. Definately not a leak of any kind shorting it out. That was checked. And Monsta I appreciate that valuable advice (maybe its broken). lol
my cruise control stoped working, started working again and one day i walked outside and there was smoke coming from under the hood, sure enough the brake fluid was leaking, had to unplug the connection, glad i i caught it before it lit up. I do have a gas engine though and the recall is fixed now.
I just had the recall done a couple days ago. My mechanic took it down to Ford. He forgot to test the cruise on the way back... but I suspect it is still not working.
At any rate, does anyone know the part # for the faulty switch on the master cylinder?
When my cruise stopped working the cruise light would blink every time I pushed the button but woudl go off the second I let go of it. I had the recall done to it, but that didn't fix it. It would up being the actual brake switch that screws into the master cylinder. Sorry I don't ahve the part number for it though. Replaced it, took about 10 minutes and everything has been working since.
Jefferson 150, Your '92 does not have a Boo switch on the master cylinder right?
And if it does then for sure check the fuse that ford would have installed for a recall back in the day
The recall put a fused jumper harness in the Boo (brake on off switch) harness to prevent fire
The above posts are correct
It is a serious situation if that boo switch shorts out without the recall being performed
It can cook the truck
