It will come off without removing the seats. Just make sure you empty everything out of it first as you will dump everything out of it while removing it.
I started to take it out but I didn't want to force it. Two side clips, two bottom bolts, pull the bottom over the carpet & the pull the top back & lift?
I was trying to do this by myself, it must be easier to to with a assistant.
The engine cover was much easier to remove on my '85 Club Wagon than on my '92, but neither requires removing a seat. The bigger OEM seats on my '92 Chateau make removing the motor cover tight, but its an easy 1 man job. Of course you need to be sure that you've adjusted both seats to their rear most position.
It's only four bolts and two minutes to remove the seat. Lift seat off of studs and position it farther back. I have always done it this way on my 93. 02 is easy. The portion of the console toward the back of the van pulls up and is removed from the actual engine cover. Then its just 4 clips to open and that cover is much smaller than the previous style van. Really, really easy. You don't have to clean out the console with this style.
