Bolt-on doesn't.
Universal isn't.
One-size-fits-all won't.

And an oldies but goody:

Any tool or hardware dropped will roll to a point just beyond reach and stop.

The easiest way to measure the midpoint between your frame rails is to drop a bolt or socket under the truck. It will always stop exactly in the middle of the truck making it just as difficult to retreave from either side.

True! but there is a corollary: "There is a 6"-wide zone in the middle of the truck that is beyond arm's reach. When attempting to retrieve anything from either side, your fingers will do no more than knock it into this zone."
