98 B3000
Got a girl who has a 98 B3000.. Other night she couldn't get the Auto into gear, no matter where she put the selector the clutches weren't engaging.. I'm not real familiar with the tranny in the B3000 (I'm PSD/Superduty guy).. Is there any type of electronic solenoid that controls the gear selection? I imagine linkage wouldn't be a problem as the lever can be set to R/N/D/2/1 etc.. She tow'd it to a Trans Shop and they didn't find anything nor could duplicate.
TIA
You might take a look at the shift cable where it connects up to the lever on the transmission. Have your girl move the shift lever in the cab between the gears while you watch the lever on the tranny.
Also, underneath the lever on the tranny is where the transmission range selector (TRS) is located. Look over the TRS harness connector real good for any problems. There is a both a power feed and a ground circuit to the TRS, among the other wires.

Thanks a million buddy
The digital transmission range (TRS) sensor is located on the outside of the transmission at the manual lever. The digital TR sensor completes the start circuit in PARK and NEUTRAL, the back-up lamp circuit in REVERSE and the neutral sense circuit (4x4 only) in NEUTRAL.
The digital TR sensor also opens and closes a set of four switches that are monitored by the powertrain control module to determine the position of the manual lever (P, R, N, D, 2, 1).
