I'm new to the forums and tried some searching but did not find what i'm looking for. I have a 92 bronco Eddie Bauer edition. It has push button 4 wheel drive. I'm wondering if I can install lockouts on the front. Any help would be great.
My '96 EB Bronco came from the factory with automatic hubs/push button transfer case. The previous owner replaced the hubs with Warn locking hubs, so it can be done. I drove the Bronco in the snow and ice last winter and had no problems at all with the hubs locking.
go to the warn website. it says on there, that you can buy warn premium hubs and bolt them on in place on any 5-bolt hubs without a conversion kit every auto hub i've seen is a 5-bolt, so it should work fine
I have never had any trouble with auto hubs...you just have to make sure they are fully engaged before you go hammering around....
all the ones ive seen broke are because people will push 4x4 and slam the throttle before the locking mechinism spins out on the hub and locks it in...
They are deffintly not at robost as the manuals but i bet that they will stand up to any kind of offroading where your not throwing 500hp and trying to spin the tires on dry cement...
I personally like the fact of not having to get out of my rig when im out wheelin... just click her in and go

first nobody could run 500hp on these with out many mods and at that point there upgrading the axles. also any ford truck or bronco shouldnt be in 4wd on dry pavement anyway. that would break any hub and even the transfercase. but point taken
Burnstoughford brings up a good point...I often hear of the auto hubs sucking.... but why? How do they fail.... I had them on and took them off just because I heard this was the case but honestly I never had a problem with them. So what are the specifics on why they suck so bad?
Wow, I'm gonna put my old ones up for sale then. They worked up to the day I took them off to put a spool and new gears in the front axle. I've seen most fail due to lack of maintenance, the grease gets hard and bam. It would take up to 10 feet of travel before mine engaged, that was a problem if I needed 4WD. HAd to shift into 4HI BEFORE going through mud or climbing.
The more serious problem. Auto hubs an lock in forward or backwards. Now if you lock them in forwards (normal) and then you go to unlock them, the instructions will tell you to unlock them by going the oppisite direction for aprox. ten feet. Sometimes one of the hubs will unlock and then promply lock up the other direction. In the mean time, the other hub unlocks as it should. Now, if you drive forward to unlock the errent hub, the good hub will lock again. This can go on and on. You end up jacking up the wheel and unlocking by hand. (PITA) I will say that this doesnt happen to often if you back up perfectly striaght. But once is enough.
In addition, the hubs genrally wont lock if you are allready stuck because the wheels (not just the axles) need to be turning to lock. Warn made a set of hubs for Scout's that solved all of these problems. But of course, these dont fit Bronco's without changing the whole wheel/hub/brake disc. I may do this if I find a donor.
I have never heard of one unlocking and the other...but i see how it could happen... and i wont argue that warn are 10x stronger...but i seriously never broke any auto hubs and i took my 92 eddie bower bronco with a 351 to a couple of local tough truck contests and i was as mean to that as i could be...
