Hello everybody. I am attempting to replace my front brake rotors. My sled is a 97 F350 4x4 automatic. I removed the "4x4" cover and guts, caliper and that's as far as I got. I need help on how to remove the rotor from the truck. Any ideas will be appreciated.
you have to have a special tool you can buy from checker or autozone, to remove the special nut that olds the wheel bearings in place. Looks like a really big socket with 4 notched teeth on it, there are couple different kinds, but just look at it and you should be able to see which you need
True what Pest said. There are two nuts and a washer in between them. Also there is a half washer or half snap ring in there, be sure to get it out with a pick. or small screwdriver. Once the hub is off you pound out the studs and replace the rotor and tighten the studs to seat them. Oh I'm sorry ths 1/2 ring is in the auto hub assembly. I gotta pic if you need it.
Alabama, Advance Auto parts will loan you the socket set if you buy your rotors there. They just put it on a credit card and then credit it back when you return the set. It's called a spindle nut socket..
FYI. Most part stores have "Loaner Tools" that you put a deposit on and when you bring the tool back they give you your money back, and you don't have to buy parts from them to get the tool.
sounds like you got auto locking hubs, check the link above it will take care of you and also take note of my post about the little locking ring, they are VERY fragile

When I did my front brakes I rented a Spindle Nut Socket set from Adavnce.....like $39-49.00 deposit...When I went to retun it I was told I could keep it if I wanted to for the deposit fee.....why NOT? It had like 6 sockets in it...
One darn socket can cost you that....
