Trans issues, round 2

The time has come for a new trans or atleast a rebuild in the 7.3. There is clutch pieces in the filter and i think the pan is cracked as its leakin good amounts of fluid.

So question one being do I rebuild what needs to be rebuilt and use the rest of the good components or rebuild the whole thing?

Question two being do I go with dudes rebuild but use a ATS triple-lok TC?

Question three being do i buy an aftermakret trans?

And question three being who do i go with if I buy an aftermarket trans? Ats? Bts? Suncoast?......

I talked to BTS and Brian Makes one transmission. $4000 includes cooler and TC I think.

I've been researching and there are several good rebuilds out there.

Personally I would go with someone close just in case.

I liked this little write up.

Good points I just have seen some of the materials that BTS uses and are superior. Not saying the other guys don't use superior stuff I just don't know. I plan on using BTS with the EX when it is time, or when she lets me.

if you know what your doing i would rebuild yours yourself, they are quite simple inside, get the upraded goodies to install, put a sd foreward planetary in and get the upgraded roller bearings as well as performance clutches and steels, i think there is a better drum available with better clutch pressure too, as for the converter i dont know who makes the best one out there, the cost of building a "bts" or "ats" yourself would probably be half, oh and definatly get the deeper pan.

I second coonhunter. If you feel comfortable and have the time redo it yourself do, and be sure to put in a high quality torque converter.

I did not have the time, to say the least, so I just had ATS put in a stage 2 tranny. basically the stage 2 means a bigger pan, 4 quarts extra if I am not mistaken. I think the larger pan is well worth it if you are going to be towing alot, but that remains to be seen for me.

I used ATS because they are local, and my cousin has 100k on one of thier tranny's.
Go with someone local if you can.

Good luck. By the way, ATS pans look pretty cool if I do say so myself.

I highly recommend Brian's Truck Shop, once you buy one, you'll understand why. They have a installation shop closer than Arkansas too. I currently have 2 & PLAN TO BUY A 3RD. Great customer service! Can't say enough positive!

John Wood from California has a solid reputation.

ATS, I have seen some bad transmissions first hand, & witnessed some difficult warranty situations with friends. That's enough for me to avoid them. Take it for what it's worth. It's your money.

Suncoast if I was to rebuild myself, get the extreme tow kit as well, without it & that would be a mistake IMHO.

If you go with the deeper pan, that creates more fluid to cool which once it's hot, will require more cooling, so install the largest cooler available. 31 core 6.0 cooler & all will be good.

Stock pan is all that's needed IMO. But if you got the Ching, get the Bling!

with your mods i would definitely go with an aftermarket tranny.
bts or faubion motorsports (he even has step by step photos on rebuilding it in his webshots) he has built a lot of them including luke clines tranny.
a stock rebuit one wont last very long with your hp.

Steve I would have to agree with most here. Drop the cash on a good aftermarket. John Woods and BTS. I have heard great things about. JW is closer to you than BTS but I do know they will ship the tranny too.

I'll bet your pan is not leaking. The tranny is probably just getting really hot and spitting fluid out the top through the vent.
