Help. I dropped off a load of wood at a friends. The driveway was down hill, steep and fairly long. When I finished unloading the truck, I couldn't back out of the driveway. It kept shaking and then stalled. I tried several times with no luck. I turned the truck around and tried it going forward, same problem.
After many tries, I eventually got it up the hill.
I have a 76 F100 with I300, 3spd on column. Clutch seems to grip fine on normal roads. Any thoughts?
I know, dumb answer, but were you in 3rd instead of 1st, or 4th instead of 2nd, happened to me many times in my neighbors 67 Ford, same motor and everything, i thought i couldnt drive the darn truck, but the pins for the shifter to go in are so small. Well, its a dumb answer, but maybe you messed up this time IDK
You said it stalls going up hills and then you went on to mention that the clutch grips fine on normal roads. Does it actually stall as if it's starved for fuel? Fuel filter? Or is the clutch not engaging? New clutch?
I recently a situation where I noticed my rpm's increase going up hill on the highway. It's a standard so I figured that the clutch was slipping and allowing the motor to rev. I had the whole kit and kabudle replaced by a friend because I didn't know how to do it myself. The clutch was pretty worn and the flywheel had heat cracks all through it. It was simply the end of it's useful life span.
Initially I was in reverse and tried to back out of drive. Then I tried forward. I'm sure I was in 1st. It was a very steep driveway. It is possible the 1 barrel carb doesn't hold enough fuel or is dumping out due to the incline? I would estimate the driveway to be at 45-50 degrees. The engine never rev-ed up. It just shook and jumped around. At one time it shook so hard the air cleaner popped off. Can you adjust the float to hold more gas? Or should I look at getting a bigger carb?
