How to pull codes

I have a 93 F-150 4x4 351W SD E40d,3.55 gears. The check engine light is coming on and off and the trans is acting up. Will trans problems show up on scanner? I am old school and have never pulled codes before. Has been running great then all of a sudden, starts cutting out during heavy throttle and shifting sluggish, speedometer is skipping.

Its extremly easy to do, and doesn't require a scanner.

Sounds like your VSS is dirty, loose or broken. Probably just dirty. It's the only electrical item that goes into your rear differential.

Bought a scanner today and it doesnt look good for the E40d. Code 62 and 628. Looks like a 12,28,122. I will try again to make sure. Where is the TP sensor and what does it do ?

Double check those codes, I made this mistake myself: you only get either 2 OR 3 digit codes, not both. The code reader shows each code twice, spacer single flash, then the continuous memory codes

TP sensor is located underneath the throttle body intake, pretty much tells the computor how open or closed the throttle is.
