"car shows"
i went too my first car show in the 53 this past weekend . no i didn't enter it but was parked right behind my bud's 70 roadrunner outside the show but still very visible . i was having a pretty good time and had a few who wanted to know why i wasn't in it . then i heard the disparaging remarks of a couple o.k. a few jerks that irratated me and i'm just now venting about it . i'm sure most of you have seen the pics bessie in the gallery and know she's not perfect . i don't give a da-- myself as i enjoy driving her , problems and all . as far as i can tell most people have a positive reaction to her and gotten more than a few thumbs up . well any way the worst was from another effie owner who made several remarks about that embarrassing green peice of sh-t over there , and how it shouldn't be allowed here as it was ugly . i kept my mouth shut said nothing to no one but wasn't at the show for much longer and really don't know if i will ever attend another show sponsored by the club this jerk belonged too . bessie ain't much and my 55's are far from where bessie is , but i sure as hades don't down others not even the rice crowd that i dont care for as i can appreciate the work involved in their pride and joy regardless of what point of completion it is in . but another effie owner ..... man i hope someone put's you straight pal 'cause you don't have a clue and next time i am not gonna be polite , and you know who you are !!!!!

It's a shame that happened to you. I've entered my beater in a half dozen shows so far, just for the heck of it, and most of the comments are positive. There's been a few people chuckle at it (mostly kids who aren't even old enough to drive) and the past show a two different kids referred to it as a "Mater truck" which doesn't bother me. Most of the comments, though, are along the lines of "Hey, nice truck!" and "When are you going to finish it?"

I have been car showing sence 1991 and luckly there are very few of those kind of people there. But those that are sure give the rest a bad name. I am like you, I can find good and something I like in everyones creation. The guy you run into has no business attending a show. Most of them are just jelious. Keep going to shows. Enter you truck. Have a good time with the folks that know what it is all about.

Your experience is pretty much the reason why I have avoided driving my truck to shows, let alone enter it in any. I think those that talk the most and are severely critical of other peoples projects, have less involvement on their own project and spend more time on the phone with their mechanic asking them how much he owes him for this months work. Some people can appreciate a lot of hard work, others pay for someone else to do it for them.
Last summer I drove my truck to my sister's house and the neighbor proceeds to come over and rattle off a list of old cars he and his dad have done...then proceeds to do a 360 inspection on my truck and point out the blemishes in my front right fender and the driver's side cab corner. I looked in his driveway and all I see is a beat up mid 80's pickup with 2-different sets of tires.

hey man,
I relly dig your green 55 just the way it sits. I gotta tell you I own quite a few collector vehicles both old and new, heck I even have a first place show winner along with my favorite the ragged old 64 falcon convertible. I get a lot of people ask me on the falcon " you gonna fix it up or restore it?" my answer is just NO, I drive it and enjoy it just the it is. outside of mainting it properly to keep it safe its a fun ride. don't let the jerks out there that think there s&*% dont stink because there rolling around in a show quality rig...it.. to me... is'nt what the hobby is all about.

I didn't enter mine, but I parked right in with the show trucks at the Ozarks run a few weeks ago. I talked to a lot of people and everyone was cool. I was asked tons of questions and had a great time. My Y-block got a lot of attention. LOL
I don't think I will ever enter mine in a show, but I will drive it to every one I get a chance to.
Last week the T-buckets were in town. I had just gotten out of dialysis (can't drive the truck because of bandages on my arm from the needles), but dad drove and we were in an escorted parade for 15 miles. People along the route were all excited to see an old beat up truck in the parade behind the T-buckets. I know there were a lot of pictures and video of my truck. Tons of waves and smiles along the way.
Ignore the guy who probably paid to have his built and enjoy your truck. Many, many other people will enjoy it too.

Talk is cheap and of no value when coming from the mouth of a moron. Blow that comment off.
I don't give a hoot about the trailer queens and the trophy hunting owners. I go for the good time to relax, meet some really great people and at times the food. I always enter if the fee is for charity or other good cause. Next time , notice the people and not the cars and trucks, you will find that most will gravitate to the patina, strange, unique.unfinished and lurk around even longer. Ever notice that vettes, prowlers and vipers get no attention when at a classic show (wrong venue)??
Or-- next time listen to the comments from some folks, and realize that they have never built or even owned an oldie.
Keep on truckin' and always have a load of fun.
Really man, Jon

Take a look at my pics from the Ozarks run (I am not photographer). Look at some of the trucks that are actually in the show. Those owners had a good time even though some of the trucks (mine included) are pretty rough. The club even has joke awards for the "bottom three". You would have to be there to understand that, but it is a lot of fun. The "bottom three" winners were smiling and posing for pictures at the awards ceremony.
I rode in the really rough (red primered) 55 that weekend. The truck ran great and the owner was having a great time.

Hey you can come and park your green POS next to mine anytime, It'll make mine look better.(currently mine is a pile of parts) At least you are driving your truck and having fun with it, don't worry about the guys that don't have a clue. Let them have the trailer queens that are never driven and spend most of their time washing, polishing and worrying if someone is getting too close.

OK, everyone is absolutely correct in that this guy is a jerk, probably didn't do much if anything on his truck, and needs a lesson in manners. But there is more to this than his disparaging remarks. This person has a serious character flaw and is obviously totally insecure. My point is, the fact that he finds it necessary to criticize another man's project is pathetic.
