I have a 2000 ford f150 for the past 5 years. It is 4x2, V6, 4.2L engine. This past week, I've had a warning chime I've never heard before. I start the truck, seat belt on, doors closed, etc., count to 20, and a chime, sounds like the door ajar chime, but beeps 5 times, stops, and then repeats for 4 more times, then stops. It only happens after I start the engine, and only after about 15-20 seconds of startup. I took it to 2 different Ford dealers, and they said they never heard it before, and didn't know what to tell me. Any ideas, before I pay for a diagnostic? Thanx in advance. Gus
Air bag indicator bulb burned out warning chime comes to mind. I'll check into that, never seen it first hand. Does the air bag check light come on when you start the truck? Does it chime in series' of five chimes?

I 2nd that, sounds like your airbag light burnt out.
Thanx for the responses! I never would have thought an air bag burnt out lightbulb could cause a chime! Yes, it chimes in a series of 5 chimes, 5 times in a row. So, does this mean I have to figure out how to replace the air bag light bulb? If so, where do I find out how to do such a thing?
It isn't fun pulling the cluster but not impossible. Figure a good $100 if you have a dealer do it though, while you are in there replace every bulb. Nothing worse than getting it all put back together and having another bulb burn out the next day.
ok, before I got a chance to move forward on the instrument cluster, my alternator went out. I just replaced it. It was a reman from Dec 2006. (only 7 months old) It was tested and found to be defective. The warning chimes continue. Could the air bag light burning out on the instrument panel have anything to do with the alternator going out? I know this may sound like a ridiculous question, but I am curious..
exact same thing is happening to me. series of 5 chimes 5 times. checked the manual and this forum then pulled the fuse for the airbag and the chime stopped. put the fuse back in and chime returned. based on that, this forum and the owners manual i am sure it involves the airbag. not, however, sure that it is not a warning about a larger, potentially more dangerous problem.
have no interest in driving a car without a functioning airbag. i think i will start with replacing the indicator light and see if that stops the chime. if it stops the chime should i still take it in for a diagnosis on the overall air bag system. any thoughts.
Once you get the air bag lamp replaced if, IF I say, the lamp flashes just count the flashes and post it here. That'll give you a good idea of whatever problem you think you may have.
The air bag system goes through a self check when you crank the truck. It has detected no indicator lamp ...... may be the only problem.
This does not have anything to do with the rest of these replys, but I was wandering if there are more than one chime box under the dash? Is there a seperate one for the air bag? Since I hate to hear the door and key buzzer going off all the time. (I work with van doors open) I usually remove the buzzers in my vehicles. Is this unsafe to do? Or can it cause a code to be left similar to the burnt dash light? I currently have 1995 and 97 e-150 vans. thanks in advance.
