We were freeing up some stuck valves and in the process I notices that this engine has two oil drillings per bank from the block that oil the rockers. With all the plugs out and spinning the engine with the starter I see that only one per side pumps oil. The head shows that they all are thru drillings, But are they? I was planning on making a special cap screw with a grease fitting on it and pump oil in the two that are not oiling to maybe unplug the drillings. The car sat for three years .
Fuzz, that’s the way it is. Each rocker shaft gets it’s oil from one feed only, on the driver’s side from the #2 cam bearing and on the passenger side from the #4. Be sure not to use that three-year-old gas or else your valves will get stuck again.
Thanks Barry. Yep, them pushrods bend easy. We removed the gas tank, emptied it and let it dry out. Then I threw in about a half coffee can of used carbide cuttinging inserts followed by a 25 ft. length of chain. We shook the heck out of it and this seemed to do a good job. My son (his car) thinks we should clean it further, but I believe if we fill it with good gas and run a tank or two through it should be okey. We are also leaving the valve seals off until we feel that the problem is solved. We rebuilt the carb and cleaned the fuel pump. That was really gummed up. .Thanks again...Ron
