Just wondering if any of you guy's with mild HP FE's(400's hp range) had any opinion on what king of trans kit is good for a C6 in a F100. not for towing just playing around and weekend driving. I have included an other poll option so if you chose other PLEASE tell what the other would be. If you know other mods needed for the C6 let me know of those also. Thanks in advance for the help.
I've heard from several people that a C6 can easily handle 700+ horsepower stock. If I'm not mistaken, most Monster trucks use a C6 (well at least the ones from the 80's and 90's did)

I guess the one in my truck has seen it's better day's. It has 78k on it now and just started not shifting. Checked the fluid and it is full of black particles. (clutch material)
Just build it stock. If you end up going w/ a kit, it'll make your shifts firm and solid but you'll be givin your chiropractor some visits too. Stock C6's are bulletproof pretty much. I've seen them in some pretty monstrous applications and were stock and holdin up fine.
I just had a C6 rebuilt for my 67 F250. He did several mods so it would have more clutches and some other stuff but he pretty much said the same thing that I wouldn't be able to hurt it with my 400hp 410fe. I wouldn't want the firm hard shifting as youd expect for a muscle car but thats just my preference.

Sounds like we are in the same boat. I think both the kits come with the extra clutches and a Kevlar band. I do like the hard shifting though, but that come's with the kit anyway. Like you said that is just personal preference. Is that 400hp mark with that 410 a guess or did you have it dyno'ed?
Ok...so were the truck and car C6's the same? Or are the truck trannys more HD? I know the CJ and Shelby cars with the 428's had a better servo's but the stocker C6's like in my Cougar is what I'm wondering about?
One thing a lot of people don't consider- the firmer shifts are also harder on the u-joints, rear end and axles too. Just something to consider........
there's a difference between firm and slam-you-back-into-the-seat shifts.
Firm shifts where the trans goes from one gear to the next without slipping into the next gear but not slamming the gear is what you're looking for. Alot of kits come with different setups like "stock" "towing" and "competition". I've had real good luck doing TH350's and 400's with towing kits. (never done a c4 or c6)
They just click gear to gear without slamming the driveline. Keeps everything alive while making it alot more responsive to drive.
As far as the difference, my dad rebuilt his C6 outa his '77 E350 and then tried to rebuild the C6 in his '67 fastback, didn't come out so well. He tried 3 times and came out with the same problem each time and ended up taking it somewhere and never figured out what it was. We just rebuilt my C6 in my 73 f100 about 3 years ago and it came out beautiful. So he's 2 for 3 and couldn't figure out the one so I'd same somethin in there is different. Whether or not the difference is in the application or the year I'm not sure.

You are right about the servo in the 428's. They were called the "R" Code servo's. TCI sell's new ones that are suppose to be the same or better spec's as the original. That is one thing the trans shop told me I might need to get. I just wonder if it is worth the $200 for the servo and $325 for the kit plus another $400 for labor. When I can get a NEW/reman Broader Tran's or TCI steetfighter for around a $1000. The only problem I have with buying the whole trans is I would have to buy/find a driveshaft to fit my truck.
Someone put other as there choice, but didn't say what the other was?!?!
The biggest year change on the C6 was 76 and since your not going to find an FE C6 after 76 guess it doesn't make much difference.
Broaderperformance is pretty good and sells good parts at a decent price. I buy rebuild stuff from him and a couple others
about all I can suggest is you want alto clutches and Kolene steels, unless your racing I would suggest the red intermediate band over the kevlar, and the R code servo is a ok way to go but you can put in a E or F code lever instead and in your application be just as well off (do NOT use an F code with an R code servo you will almost assuredly crack the case if you do)
