nitrous nozzles

I'm working on a little project that requires a type of nozzle or injector to atomize a fluid(don't ask!). I have pretty much decided against fuel injectors(too complicated) and now I'm looking for a type of nozzle to use. My idea uses two nozzles threaded into a 1" aluminum carb spacer. I looked around and saw that NOS makes nozzles for gasoline to use with their nitrous systems. I already looked at their website and it did not say much about them.

What I need to know is, do these nozzles atomize the gasoline or do they just squirt a stream of it?? Their 90-degree nozzle is what would work better for my application if it matters.

Also, I'm looking for a pump(electric) to power the nozzles. If those NOS nozzles will work, what kind of pressure would they require?

I'm not sure if they spray or squirt, but I'm guessing they squirt because the high flow of air and the nature of the NOS. I understand NOS is a gas not a liquid, so they really wouldn't need to spray.
Basically for what you need, it really depends on the nature of the liquid. For real atomization, I think you'll need air mixed simular to what a carb does. But you can take a simple pipe and smash the end to cause a wide spray pattern, and this coupled with the fact the the air charge under the carb is moving very fast, I'd say you'd be ok.

Getting air to mix before entry is going to be hard, but I'd question if you really need that.
A universal EFI type fuel pump will put out good pressure, but don't forget, these are designed for fuel which is a very thin liquid.

Ben- maybe you could reconsider fuel nozzles. N2O nozzles are setup for liquid gasoline and very high pressure nitrous vapor, with the nitrous being blown across the gasoline to atomize it. If you are going to use liquid only for your project, I don't know that nitrous nozzles will help you. DF

LAST EDITED ON 21-Jan-01 AT 08:01 PM (EST)[p]Here is a pic of the type of nozzle I'm thinking of using.

http://members.nbci.com/ben_e/noz/fannoz.jpg

This nozzle is adjustable with jets, so I can tune flow. These are independant nozzles so there is only one hook-up. I was thinking two of these, one for each side of the engine. With enough pressure, and the air moving past the throttle plate on the carb the fluid should get mixed enough(I hope). The fluid I'm using is almost the same density as water. I'm going to use
-4 hose and fittings with a high pressure pump and regulator with some type of vacume activated control. I'm thinking of using Edelbrock's water injection box (vari-jection?) if I can find one. Basically what I'm making is a high pressure water injection system with a little extra punch. Right now I'm still drawing up plans for the system, and I'm stuck on nozzles.

You've really peaked my interest with this one! Are you going to elaborate on this project, or just keep us all in the dark?

For now I'm going to keep my secret. Mostly because I have not tested the "mystery fluid" yet(it works on paper though!) and I can see somebody blowing up their truck or possibly themselves trying it. I have almost everything I need to test except for some nozzles, and I have yet to talk my friend into using his Chevette as a test subject. Also, since I don't know chemistry to well it will take a while to figure out what's compatible with what as far as mixing chemicals and what mixture works best. Basically what I'm going for is a nitrous system but with out the nitrous. And if I can figure out a way to tune the system while driving down the road it may actually increase gas mileage. The "mystery fluid" with introduce more oxygen into the cylinders as well as making the incoming mixture more cool and dense. So hopefully the end result will be a more efficient burn and with a quick turn of a dial and the flick of a button, a short burst of added power. The closest thing I have found were something like my idea was used was rocket fuel, so you can see why I will not tell...

Sounds like H2O2 to me too. Hope he's careful, pure H2O2 is extremely volatile.

Yeah, I don't think the stuff from the drug store would work very well. I think it is like 3% or something smaller.

Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Gasoline?! Plus some water just to keep everything cool...? If you could keep your engine pieces bolted together good and tight, then hydrogen would be great! I wonder how something like that would compare with today's racing fuels (ethanol, methanol), or how it would compare with nitrous?
You would definately have to build the engine with this in mind, just like a blower; you'd have to have cast everything (bulletproof bottom end), and really hefty gaskets, tight clearances etc...

Well I guess I told too much, the secrets out. I can see some people are already alittle skeptical. Seriously though, does anybody think it could work? I think I've found a source for 50% H2O2. I have seen gasoline and 50% H2O2 together but they were not mixed, one was sitting on top of the other in a glass beaker to show how stable 50% is. This was a website that sold rocket kits that used gasoline and 50% H2O2 as propellant. As far as I can tell they inject the two fluids into a chamber then ignite it. I think with just the right amount of H2O2 injected into a carbed engine as a fine mist, and allowed to mix with the gasoline before it enters the cylinders would increase it's efficiency and power. What do you people think????

Like I said before; for major power increases, you will probably have to build the engine for it. But, in very small amounts, it might help. Just be sure to turn it up very slowly!
