I'm probably posting this in the wrong list, but here goes...

So, there I was...checking the air in my tires when I found some cracking and splitting in my right rear. Guess it's time to get a set of new tires...
Went to just about every tire shop in town and got quotes on several tires, but two brands/models seemed to popular at each place. The BF Goodrich TA/KO and the Goodyear Silent Armor are the two tires that appear to popular. Both are LT285/75R16's with Load Range E, but now I'm trying to decide which tire to get. It's only about $10-20 difference per tire.
Is anyone out here familiar with either tire enough to help me make an educated decision? I've had plenty of Goodyears on vehicles, but have never bought BFG's. I'll take any advice anyone has to offer, as long as it comes before 0700EST, just cuz that's when I'm going to get the tires mounted...

I have run BFG's for years, and they are a good tire. It does seem however that there QC has slipped some as sometimes it takes awhile to find 4 tires that don't take alot of weight to balance. I have not run the Goodyear Silent Armor but have heard good things about them. Also i am seriously looking at the Toyo Open Country A/T as many people run and like these as well.
Another tire to consider is the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo which is a slightly less aggressive A/T design although a good looking tire which gets excellent reviews...

Yes it does, in fact i had a set on my 04 PSD and there were very good tires.
I'm running Revo's now. I guess they're OK, but I have a very hard time getting and keeping them in balance. I loved the stock Pirelli's which I got 65+K miles from. Of course I didn't have the SCT then either. I've already gone through 4 in the last 30K miles, but needed them for the mountains. Considering going back to the Pirelli's since all I do is street/highway driving and the roads here are extremely abrasive.
I'm looking at the Goodyears SA. I've had a hard time even finding any and seem to be a backordered item . I had them on my 01 and was very happy with them over the stock Contri-craps .
We removed Continental Contitrac 245/75/17 and replaced them with the Goodyear Silent Armor pro 265/70/17 on F250 Superduty.. ..Go to Tire rack .com and at that site a lot of info on these tires is available. Score very high in mud or snow traction. We like the ride and the way the truck hugs the road.Have not regretted this choice, but have not run the tires long enough to tell about wearability...I do hear from others that they are great. Good luck
post script..on Goodyear Silent Armor.our local Ford dealer ordered them for us. Tire rack also did have them. Contitrac on new truck came with hole clear thru sidewall. No traction either with the Contitrac tires. .

Well, I've decided to go with the Goodyears...the local Sears has 4 tires in stock and I'm going to have it done first thing in the morning. My decision was based mainly on the 50,000 mile warranty on the tires, which is something the BFG's don't have. Not to mention that Sears can't get the BFG's with the E Load rating.
Made another interesting discovery tonight...truck came stock with 265/75/16s, it's got 285s on it, and my spare is the OEM tire. Guess I'll have Sears pick the best of the 4 tires and replace the spare, so I don't end up driving ****-eyed if I ever have to use the spare

Our company tries all kinds of tires and brands for our superduties. If you are looking for a less aggressive tire the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo are very good.
If you want more aggressive A/T I have found Dick Cepek FC-II to be fantastic. I have a pair on my stock 16" rims for the winter with over 75,000km adn showing only 50% wear - Tires seem bullet proof (My second set). I also have Mickey ATZ on 20's also very good as 3 friends (Dodge & 2 Chevies 1 tons) have got them up to 100,000km easily. Around hear thats all most of us use Mickeys and Dicks if you want a good A/T tire with great tread wear. They are also quiet as the diesel engine still outlouds the tires.
I heard good things about the Procomp extreme A/T and and Toyo Open Country but can't personally say from experience.
BFG TA K/O have good tread wear but difficult to balance and found the traction not as great as Mickey or Dick. The BFG is an old technology tread design.
I never had good expereince with anything from goodyear or cooper.

another tire i've had good luck w/ is the nitto terra grappler..i got 55k on these and i'm am far from easy on them. quiet and good looking tire at that. i had bfg at/ko's on before these and only got 44k.
I have firestone destination Mt's. I had 2 sets of on my f-150. I just put a set on to my 250 i will not buy anything else. these tires are great for the type of driving i do. Little off roading lot of highway. Until hunting season comes anyhow. I cant complain about these tires at all. I highly recommend them. Good luck tire shopping Remember to rotate your tires every 3000 miles and it will help the life of them.
