I just purchased some new monroe reflex shocks and forgot to get two boots. Just wondering what adverse affect if any would be to the shocks if I ran them without boots. I know from previuos experince when I had boots on my ranchos water would collect at teh bottom of the rubber boot and cause rusting and other times just couldn't get the bottom to stay put around the shock.
It's always better to have some cover on the tops to keep dirt off of the shock rod and its seal. I thought all new shocks come with some type of boots. Do the Reflex come with their own boots?
The stock boots are just "hats" that cover the tops, but are opened to the bottom to allow debris and water to get out. The boots that came with my Sensatracs are bellows that are closed up around the top of the rods and shock bodies. The bottom of the bellows have holes that are supposed to let water out.
No the two reflex shocks for the front did not come with boots. I do have some older rancho boots that may fit, so I'll try those. One thing I like so far is that the shocks are tan which match the color of my van. I'll let everyone know how they perform. Thanks.
I attempted to install the front shocks and got one bolt out of the bottom and the nut on the other bolt decided to turn. I tryed about every angle and wrench I had to get ahold of the nut inside the a arm without any luck. So I stopped and did some other things for a while. I now think I can get a long 1/4 in extension and slip it down thru the shock hole from the top and get hold of that nut. That is my last idea other than dropping down the arm. Always something .
