1986 f250 ExCab 2wd, 3.08 gears E4OD transmission in overdrive about half the time, while towing 20F flatbed trailer, ocasional AC use, cruising at 65- 70mph (1600 rpm),
1. Right around 16 MPG's, hauling a gooseneck with tractor 10-11mpg's
2.Aurora 2000 turbo, wastegated
3. Mod intake, and exhaust
4.f-250 w/dana 80 front(yes eighty), and sterling 10.25" rear with 4.10 ZF5 speed trans 4x4.
1. Used to get 17 mpg with the 31" tires, switched to 33" now says 15 mpg, but I have not corrected the speedometer/odometer fot the taller tires so maybe still in the 16 mpg range.
2. Naturally aspirated 7.3 IDI
3. Bone stock, no nothing, not sure if the IP was turned up but I highly doubt it since the only time black smoke comes out is under hard acceleration around 2900 rpm, and then its not thick.
4. 250 4x4 ZF 5 spd with 4.10 gears, though this thread is making me think 3.55s, or even 3.31s (is that right do they make those?), or 3.08s might be better.
All my driving is mixed highway/city never towing (dont have a trailer of any kind I just love diesel technology) at highway speeds I cruise around 60, rpms are about 2150.
88 250 7.3 c6 auto 3 spd
60 mph 2500rpm
averaging 13.5mpg
all stock
34000 original miles(no lie)
looking for anything to bring rpms down
not sure of rear end, any suggestions to help me keep her running as long as you guys??
Thats why a tach is in order for the '85. I'm curious what the RPM's are at highway speeds. I might need a change of shorts after I find out. It screams pretty loud, and I've been told I have a lead foot.
What gear ratio do you have 460429? I dont plan on going 80mph, I cant even go 80mph. The fastest the animal goes when I drop the hammer is 65-70 uphill or down.

Wish I had a 5-speed
410 gears would not run over 65 till I turned the pump up and added a extra snorkle.. 265 16's on the back

1. 14-16 mpg running empty at 70-75mph, 2300-2500rpm. Just took a trip from SE WA to Great Falls MT and back. The elevation changes were 400ft to over 5600ft and the power noticably changed the higher we went.
2. 7.3 N/A
3. bone stock (still has soup bowl) with 240,000 miles
1) 17 in town, 20 highway, ~15-16 towing my other truck, about 8-9K between truck and trailer, but, I was definitely not driving for mileage, pedal was to the rug on every hill maintaining 75 mph
Fuel mileage is down a bit from N/A, but, with the turbo came a lead foot.... LOL
I find I actually get better mileage doing 65 and spinning 2300-2400 than if I slow it down to 50 and turn 2000, was the same N/A too, more power on tap, less throttle needed to pull hills etc.
With the non gated turbo, it's even more emphasized, 23-2500 is where you want to be towing, that's where you have boost right now and aren't losing an inch on hills...
GPS'd top speed on the old girl is 95 mph, run out of RPM, with o/d, it'd break 100 easy
