first stump pull

So this evening near the edge of my parents front yard, I saw one of the dogwoods had died. So I sawed the top off (took like an hour), and thought, "How cool would it be to rip the stump out like I hear those guys on the internet brag about?" Of course I'm not gonna do it in my '07 5.4 FX4 -- too new, it's still my baby (just got it last Friday), so I dug out the old Bronco and the tow chain that used to get it around in the days before I got a new fuel pump. Front hubs locked, 4low, started out slow--nothing. So I floored it, and started digging four holes. Meanwhile my dad's sitting there laughing and having a good time watching. He thought it would be a fine idea to pick up speed and knock it over head on with the bull bar (I got from a guy on FSB) on front. Finally I said "f--- it", backed up, and then floored it...POP! And that's my first stump pull. Not much of a story for some of you guys, but I did have fun in the Bronco again, and my dad had a hoot. God I love this engine, 4.9 no emissions 4bbl Holley and Clifford headers.

Awesome man... Stump pulling looks fun, my dad used to rip them out with his 77 when i was a kid and he was building our house.

Anyway, i have a challenge on the table. A buddy of mine has a 1979 International Scout II, four wheel drive, 345ci V8. He wants to hook up a tow rope and go after my 300inlinie. I got 4WD, no emision 300, in a 78 Rnager.

Can i win?

The specs say he has more torque and HP then i do, can i win???

One thing i have on him, is that his scout is a rusty hunk of crap, worse come to worse i think i might rip his rear end off.

What transmission you got? If it's an auto, put it in 2nd, the one-way clutch won't let it go backwards. Then hold the brake until he breaks his tires loose, then hit the gas, but not all at once, ease into it so you don't break your tires loose, and you will walk away with him.

If he pulls you with your brakes on and you have all 4 locked up, you are probably SOL... But most people when they hook trucks up jump the gun and spin, they think the faster the tires spinning the better it will pull. I had a 83 F-150 with 300-6 and 4 speed stock (fresh rebuild) kinda a beater we put a strap between that and a Chevy 1/2 ton with a 350 and auto trans... This was on black top, I put it in low 1 (low range granny) and eased the clutch out he waited until he felt me pulling and gunned it... I don't think I broke 2000rpms on the 300-6 and I never broke a tire loose, I then pulled him about 50 feet until he stopped trying, I told him I would have pulled him until his tires blew... That was fun, most of my old friends were Chevy fans, so that made it even funner....LOL

What I like about the 300-6 is that low end torque... You don't have to get on it so much to start out... Good grunters!!!!
