Bypass the engine computer??

I have an 88 F150 with the 4.9L 6 and need to see if the engine is any good. Is there a way to bypass the computer so I can start the engine?? Engine computer already sold, but want to see if engine is good before I go to trouble to pull out....It's really half out now as tranny is already out...

See if it turns over and has compession in all the holes.

That's all you can do now, there's no starting it without a computer.

Exclamation

Sorry but it can be started without computer, I have done several times in my local junk yard...

I guess ignition system still connected, right?

Then remove one of the canister hose right on the throtle body, use a piece of hose and some fuel in plastic bottle to put some fuel into throtle body.

Have somebody giving crank from the Ignition Switch while you give fuel and manually open the throtle body butterfly valve to give some air, it should run as usually.

You can notice some detonations if not enought fuel is manually inyected OR black smoke if to much is been used.

I guess it's a matter of perspective.

I call that getting it to fire - and I guess that would work. I'm not sure if you could get it to do that long enough to diagnose anything that a pressure test won't tell you.

You can keep engine runnig as much as fuel is in bottle, remenber any engine just need fuel, air and spark.

Fuel can be provided manually as in old times with carbureted engines.
Air hast to be provided manually open throtle.
Spark is provided by stok Ignition system if it still connected.

Tha's all...

Just be careful which container you use. A friend used s styrofoam cup and it disentigrated, causing a fire that burned him very badly.

Plain old starting fluid sprayed in works well for this. And make sure the ignition module is still attached to the distributer.
